This series is called the command of the week, but it could also explain a feature. The explanations will tend to explain the technical parts of the command, and is intended to highlight the basics (and complexities) of the command, and information about how to use it, but won't be a detailed tutorial. It is up to you to use it creatively in your maps.
Week 4 - Edit Text
A very common way to edit text labels is to use the Numeric Edit command on them. This isn't too difficult, but it can be a bit cumbersome if you need to edit many text labels in your map. Edit Text is a great command to be able to edit them (nearly) all at once instead of one by one.Where to find it?
Menu: Edit -> Text -> Edit TextCommand Line: TED
How to use it?
This command allows you to first select multiple text entities, and then have the edit box pop up for each of them, one at a time, in sequence. To use the command, simply select it from the menu or type TED on the command line, select the text entities to be selected, hitting 'Do It' and then proceed to edit the text.As such, this is a very simple command, but it can be very helpful.
This command is most helpful when you can combine it with CC3+'s powerful selection system. For example, after starting the command, hit 'T' to select by entity type, and check '2D Text' in the the popup and hit ok. Now all text entities in your map are selected. You need to only select the red text? Well, then continue by hitting 'B' (For Combine -> And (Both)) followed by 'C' (for selection by color. Hit the right mouse button to bring up the color dialog, select the correct shade of red, and hit ok. Voila, only red entities of type text are selected. Complete the selection by hitting 'D' (Do It) and CC3+ will pop up the text edit boxes for only text matching that criteria.
Note that the command isn't affected even if you do select some non-text entities, it simply skips them quietly without any issues.
Also remember that you can also change font and size for the text from the text edit dialog, but if you wish to just change this on multiple text entires, and not the actual text itself, you are better of using Change Properties instead.
When editing the text, always click OK in the edit text dialog. If you click cancel, the command will end, skipping the rest of the entities in queue.
