  • Bug with symbols casting shadows? (DD3)

    Several things here.

There was nothing on the WALLS sheet to stop the light going outside the cave, so I copied the floor to the WALLS sheet and gave the polygon a line width of 1ft to make it a wall rather than a floor.

The WALLS sheet had to be below the LIGHTS sheet, so that it was part of the lit scene and could stop the light coming out of the cave. I moved it up the list to make this true. Unfortunately, I don't know where your entrance is, so you will need to cut one out of the wall or redraw the wall.

The effects were set up ok, but the column was on the LIGHTS sheet, and not the SYMBOLS TALL sheet. That's why it wasn't casting any shadow.

I may have tweaked other things while I was messing around getting it to work, but I tried not to.

You now have a new problem I'm not sure how to cure. The lights are casting rays in the shadows. I think @Monsen might be able to help you with that one. Here is the FCW I produced from yours.

  • Problem Rotating Doors

The door will flip direction depending on which side of the central line of the wall you approach it from. So if you approach the wall with the door from the left it will be one way around, and from the right it will be the other way around. Hover a door over a wall, moving from one side of it to the other and you will see the flip in action.

  • New Mouse

I've procrastinated the final decision. I took the mouse apart and cleaned out all the fluff (well, it is 12 years old and been through hell with me). It's more or less ok now so I've got more time than I thought I had.

@Quenten This mouse is an ordinary mouse with a USB cable to the PC. I prefer them to wireless because they're greener.

I think the scroll wheel connections are worn out, which is why its sending ghost messages to the PC. I know its the mouse because it stops happening when I unplug it.

This is different and separate to the issue I had when the cursor wouldn't obey the mouse at all and became wildly erratic. That time I discovered I had left my pen lying on my tablet so the the two devices were competing for control of the cursor :P

  • [Solved] Technical problem: Not seeing symbols once selected for moving

Try pressing the tab key while you have the command in operation.

  • New Mouse

    Thank you, Daisho :)

All I use it for is CC3 and the usual browser stuff, so as long as it works its good enough. I just need one that doesn't suddenly decide I've had enough time to read that part and I need to scroll off to read another part, when I'm actually in the middle of drawing a design on a wax seal :P

  • [FT3] Settings to make single-island maps

If you edit the maps I would go to the Editing tab in the World Settings, switch on the Allow Prescale Offset Editing, set a reasonably high Custom editing size (8190 is maximum), click Apply, and then use the Prescale Raise and Lower brushes with extremely low power and nice and large. They are less damaging to the underlying fractal and will give better overall results.

  • Banners

I have also worked with real scrolls. I've a few stuck in tubes under my bed. A whole map is usually rolled up with the map on the inside, but scroll labels are a virtual creation employed by fantasy artists and nowhere near as practical.

Besides. I don't have time to change everything now if there are to be any seals. These things take forever to draw.

  • Community Atlas 500th map and 4 year anniversary competition with prizes.

Well in that case I guess any of the other 3 will do.

I will make the map and see what you all think about which one it should be.

  • How to add large symbols to a city map

I did a blog with an example map of a city on a small mesa, if that is any help. The assets used were all CD3 - no extra annuals or other add ons.

I know your city is at the base of a mountain, but you could use the same technique to make that mountain, or the visible side of that mountain.

  • Wishlist for CC4

@Monsen - LOL! I'd never noticed that one, even though my eyes must have passed over it a thousand times every time I go for GRID.

Thanks - I can now see my buttons without squinting at them, which is very important since I will probably have to wait another 6 months before I can get to an optician.
