[WIP] Recreating Thedas
Looking good :)
With the rivers it might be easier to take one at a time and reduce the line width. You can do that using the change properties tool on the left toolbar.
Be quite careful to observe just one river at a time and look at where it really flows. They don't usually split like you have in the south there.

The Cartographer's Vault Humble Bundle
Alyssa's maps are hand drawn, though we do have an annual style called Alyssa Faden Overland that was created several years ago in this annual. https://www.profantasy.com/annual/2014/november14.html

Scaling when Import new Bitmap
I would give them a default scale in import for the reasons Remy explained. If there's no scale they don't get smaller when you zoom out or larger when you zoom in. They just stay the same size, which isn't the size you will see when the map is exported.
Giving them a scale stabilises the situation so the tile actually looks the way it is no matter how zoomed in or out you are, and no matter how large or small you export your map.

Which is the best Template for a Game of Thrones Overland map and City Map?
Don't worry about asking too many questions, Tako. There are never too many questions.
And that was my main answer.
I'm sorry - I did search for the 'official Game of Thrones map' and various other combinations of those words, but I didn't find anything that was some kind of bone fide official map to get an idea of what you want. Instead I got all kinds of very different variations of the same land masses done in hundreds of different styles. So maybe if you could provide a link to the one you regard as being the definitive map I might have a better idea of what you are looking for.
I suggest a hyperlink to the ideal map because every one of these maps are copyright to the artist and should not be reposted here on the forum without their permission.

start
Hi Kevin :)
The best way to start is to absorb the information in the User Manual and work through the practical mapping exercise it contains. That establishes the basic uses of the software and should be enough for you to grasp the 'how to' of most things.
Then there are a huge number of video tutorials you can access here:
Also remember that if you get stuck and don't want to spend days trying to find just exactly the right bit of the right video, you can ask a question right here on the forum.
