  • Shadows of Yog-Sothoth

    Hi Folks,

As I've started (March this year) getting into Call of Cthulhu, a friend and I went halves in the 40th Anniversary Classic Edition 2" Box set which includes a wealth of goodies and is a re-printed version of the 1981 2nd edition of the game and a handful of supplements, one of them being the eponymous, Shadows of Yog-Sogothoth; a globe trotting campaign to save humanity from the Old Ones deprivations...

Anyhow, I'm going to run this for my gaming group and thought I'd update the maps for it. I'll post their WIPs and final versions here.

To begin with, the initial ground floor of the mansion used as headquarters for The Silver Twilight... this is scaled for VTT use...

  • WIP Commission, Ancient Tombs

    Hi Folks,

Experimented with various things for the farmalnd for a couple of hours tonight as wells ass modifying the dock area.

I think I'll stick with bushes for the borders and coloured terrain fills like the attached...I'll probably adjust the scaling on the Symbols Along (ESC) dialogue for slightly less variation.

I'm 'working' from home tomorrow & Tuesday (our guys are having a picnic day and then a rostered day off, there's not much point in driving 45 minutes each way to be bored witless for 8 hours...) so I should be able to knock this over reasonably quickly tomorrow.

  • WIP: Cartographer Guild May Challenge

    Hi All,

Here is an update. I narrowed the rivers a little, 7 miles wide seemed a bit too much...added some terrain colouring and the jungle in the tropical portion as well as some settlements here and there.

  • WIP: New Dungeon Commission

    Hi Folks,

Here is my "rainbow coloured, ice-cold floating gem" in situ. This will have to do, as I need to get these maps finished - they've been dragging on far too long and once I finish this one, there's 2 more to go. Thankfully, they're both much simpler.

  • Fractal Coastlines CC3 Hex Overland

Our original plan, from 5 years ago, was to follow the east coast into Melbourne, then across to Tasmania to do the corners (we did the central parts in 2006) back to Melbourne then The Great Ocean Road to Adelaide, Kangaroo Island and follow the coast up to Perth. My wife's bowel cancer, all good now except from suffering LARS, meant we had to postpone to 2020.

Late 2019, as you know Quenten, bush fires absolutely ravaged the areas we planned to visit. We rescheduled to May, but rather than follow the coast to Perth, we would go directly via Dubbo (my sister and brother-in-law lived there at the time and were joining us) and then head up to Broome before coming back. But COVID hit and now is the first chance we've had. We modified the trip because a) it's quiet at my work ATM and the boss suggested taking my leave would be a good idea and b) we've got to be in Broken Hill mid-August for the Mundi-Mundi bash, a 3-day music festival in the outback.

We're really looking forward to it. I've got a 4x4 (unmodified) dual cab with a tray and canopy set-up and an Oztrail Camper 8 camper trailer. Originally we were going to just use our Oztrail Tourer 9 Plus tent but decided to get a CT for the extra comfort and storage (we're both in our early 60's and sleeping on an air mattress isn't as much fun as it used to be!).

  • WIP: New Dungeon Commission

    Hi Folks,

It's been awhile. Here is a WIP of the 1st level of a 4 level dungeon.

Due to the quality of the scan I can't get the grids to line up properly after scaling the import, but it's good enough. Due to the irregular shapes, I decided to use a drawing tool to do the floors first, then I can go and trace the walls, copy the floor to the Wall Mask sheet and change the fill etc...Then add the symbols. This seems to be a reasonably efficient workflow. I'm about 2/3rds done with the floor. Over on the left will primarily use a fractal tool...

  • WIP: Novarenga MKII

    Hi Folks,

Having a little play with the new Parchmnet Overland style, re-doing my Novarenga map (originally island scale - Herman Weilink style) to make it continent scale.

Looking pretty good so far. Unfortunately, I can't find my original CC3 file which would've made the process a damn sight easier - but not a bad start for about 20-30 minutes work...

  • WIP: D&D 5e Random Dungeon Tiles

    Hi Folks,

To have a break from the more technical, and somewhat repetitive, aspects of this project, I mucked about for a few hours learning how to use Affinity Photo (I haven't really explored it all that much...) and created a dungeon floor fill. Thanks to @Ralf's excellent live stream this week, I was able to import it and have it work perfectly (irrespective of my my artistic ability).

Here is a sample done in DD3 with a standard issue wall fill. I think the floor looks OK.

  • My Dungeon Symbols

I once had a Kobold NPC that classifieid himself a Sewer Executive. When questioned by the PCs as to why he was an Executive, he explained, "Well, I take bucket. I scrape poo off walls into bucket. Full bucket I give to kobold behind and take empty bucket and scrape poo off walls into bucket. When full I give to kobold behind and take empty bucket. This happen until work day finish."

"How does that make you an executive?" A PC asked.

"Simple," he said. "I don't take no poo from noone!"
