  • Winter Trail Project

Wyvern - It's a polygon on a sheet with an EFI, so it can be drawn with as much or as little detail as you like.

Jeff - Yes, it is a bit flat. I hope to be able to go back to them if I have time.

Both wrong, I'm afraid, but the suggestions were funny :)

  • Dialogue Concerning two river systems

They weren't loading to start with, but now they appear to be ok.

@CeeJæy A method you might not have tried is to draw the river as a line, and then cut it into sections along it's length and use Change Properties to gradually reduce the width towards the source. It takes a little time to do if you have lots of rivers but the effect is genearally well worth it. The more sections you cut it into the more gradually you can change the line width and the smoother the outcome.

  • Doors going on Symbol Definition Layer

    Hello Thiles :)

The SYMBOL DEFINITION layer is the one that holds all the information for all the symbols. If you hide it all the symbols will disappear, so it is best just to leave it well alone.

Use List in the Info menu and you will see that the door is listed in the blue box that appears as being on the layer you have specified.

Incidentally, while we are discussing layers, it doesn't really make much difference what layer a symbol is on for most of the time. It is the sheets that affect the order in which things are drawn, and the sheets that hold the effects that are applied to them like shadows and glows. Layers are more a kind of grouping system.

Most entities, whether symbol, wall or fill, will go to the correct sheet and layer on placement. The important ones if you are drawing a dungeon map is to leave the walls on the WALLS layer and the floors on the FLOORS layer, or the door and window cutting symbols won't work properly.

  • Winter Trail Project

Oh yes. That animal track was meant to be a big cat, but there were several things wrong with it including that I made the mistake of judging the size of the prints against a 10 ft grid that I thought was a 5ft grid. Now that I've sorted it out it looks a lot better ;)

But just because it's not a great cat track I've called it 'Beast' instead of 'Cat'.

  • Drawing tool macros

    Ok. Different project entirely...

If I had a tool that drew a poly on one sheet, but I wanted that poly copied onto no less than 5 other sheets simultaneously, would this be possible using a macro?

The reason I ask is because I have this idea for a new style that depends very much on being able to easily draw a land-shaped hole through 5 sheets of ocean without getting into all the complexities of copying it across one sheet at a time by hand.

This is the map so far - a doodle just to get the effects heading in the right direction. The land shades are all in the background. That's how I've got them to behave in a way that doesn't depend on the coastline. But to do this with drawing tools I would need a macro that put the same Colour Key shape on all 5 ocean sheets at the same time.

It looks like you've got more than half way there, so starting again by importing everything into a new MD map might be even more of a time waster, since you would only then have to copy all the sheet effects from this map into the MD map. It's probably better to carry on and copy the sheet effects you need across from an open MD map. When you have two maps open side by side like that remember that having autosave turned on can cause a crash, so best to turn it off for the duration of the operation if you normally have it turned on

    Thanks Julian :)

And you're right - the assets have been handed over so Ralf has time to do his bit of magic making it all work properly for you. Myabe if I have time I might do something, but I've just started a new much larger project so I don't know when that might be.

  • Area measurement tool

It's an area in square map units. In an overland map that will be miles if it is imperial, or kilometres if its metric. In city or dungeon maps map units are always either feet in imperial, or metres in metric.

  • Disappearing Symbols

If you are mixing styles and the symbols from a newly introduced style have the same name as those in the original or earlier style the FCW holds onto the first definition. It's hard to say what's going on, though. Maybe upload the FCW and list the missing symbols - see if we can add them and make them stay?

If you are hiding layers that might account for it, or even just the sheets. If you hide a sheet that might be the sheet those missing parts ended up on without you being aware they were there.

It's quite difficult to say what's happening without the FCW.
