  • Sinister Sewers - Style Development Thread (CA207)

I got so busy doing things and having various household appliances break down on me (like the boiler - just before the coldest week so far) that I forgot to show you the example map I did for Sinister Sewers, which was published yesterday as the March issue of the 2024 Cartographer's Annual.

I know there's a huge gap between the last image I posted and this one, but that's just the way life happened to me right at the end of developing this style.

  • Sheet Effects stop working consistently

    You're welcome :)

It's not part of the manual. Just something that keeps happening to me, but I do spend a lot of time really pushing the software hard when I'm working on new styles. When it happens to other people it's usually quite rare.

  • Creating greater depth

You do have to have as many ROADS sheets as you do tiers, and then one more to try and blend any joins... unless you hide the join with a bridge or a tree.

  • Creating greater depth

I think you are doing well with the contouring. It does take some time and patience to get it right. Roads are a tricky one. I did a city a long time ago and cheated a little bit by using 6 or 7 tiers a bit like a disorganised wedding cake. That way each tier cast a shadow where necessary over the roads and houses on the tiers below.

  • WIP - first crack at a larger scale city

They only really work at the default scale of 1.

You can use them at other scales, but not as a connecting symbol. To do that you would need to right click on the map while you have the symbol on your crosshair, and set the bottom two checkboxes like this, then paste them individually.
