I apologize if my post isn't appropriate here, but Quenten suggested I might like to contribute a city map I posted to the Show and Tell thread to the community atlas. I would be more than happy to add it to those maps(after making some minor tweaks according to the specs in this thread); however, since I didn't design it with a particular atlas location in mind, I have no idea where it might fit into the world. I am not sure if I should post it here for suggestions. Guidance from the community would be greatly appreciated.
Lots of places it can fit, cities are generally not that difficult to add.
One possible location is the city of Mòrscala on Galahis. It is on the west coast, and there is a river a bit north of here, the river at the north of your city could reasonably be a distributary of this one.
Just a quick suggestion though, others might have more.
I'd like to reserve this section of Malajuri please, Remy. As usual, i'm almost done with the map already. It's a rainy Sunday again, so why not spend it mapping?
In about a month, I will be removing all reservations from 2017 and older from the atlas, as they probably won't be fulfilled anyway.
Note that as stated earlier, the point is not to take away a reservation simply because someone takes a long time working on it, the intention is to remove old reservations that won't ever be done. If you have an old reservation, but wish to keep it because you plan to finish the map one day, just let me know, and I'll leave the the reservation. I know that life tends to throw curve balls at you, and that things sometimes takes (far) longer than expected. And for atlas maps, that is perfectly fine, we have more than enough available places to map, so don't have a guilty conscience just because you take your time. If I don't hear anything before the beginning of August however, I will consider the reservation abandoned with no interest to complete the map.
You can check using this page if you have any reservation registered for you (the page shows all maps and reservations by name). If you have an old reservation and wish to keep it, give me a word (On the other hand, if you have a reservation about to expire and don't want it any longer, no need to tell me, I will delete it anyway)
Hi! I would like to request my first reservation on the Community Atlas. It's the portion of Alarius containing the Ever Mere and the Great Divide (see red square in attachment).
Also, can someone help me identify the scale here? I read the area that I marked off as about 1000x500. Does that sound about right?
Great. Welcome to the atlas. Measuring the marked area gives me more like 1000x650 miles in size. Remember that that's a huge area, almost the size of the entire country of Mexico. Remember at this scale it is completely fine to put in larger features, like large cities, islands, smaller mountains, more rivers and such, as these wouldn't be visible on the continent scale map, but would be on a country size map.
As announced earlier, I've now also removed some of the old stale reservations from the atlas.
As a reminder, please update me if you find you are taking more than 6 months, but still have a desire to finish the map, even if it isn't happening right now. Making maps for the atlas is never about managing to get done quickly, take all the time you need, even if it is multiple years, but I just need to know that a reservation is still active, as some people simply disappear and leave their reservations behind, while others simply completely forget about their reservations.
As always, you can check which reservations I have registered by going to the Maps by Mappers page, which lists all the maps and reservations by individual mapper.
Yea, I probably got a little lazy there, didn't bother figuring out the coordinates for all those places. Not too many people seem to want to do dungeons anyway, so the risk of any collisions was near nil. (Not to mention dungeons are much easier to "move" if something should happen, not so with cities and overland maps.)
Can I reserve the city of Nyxotos, in the Kalliochos Republic on the continent of Artimesia please? It's the one with the red arrow pointing to it in this map. Thanks.
Hello Remy, if possible, I would like to reserve the modification of the original FT3 file (heightmap, topography) so that it matches the maps a little bit more... ...and if nobody has reserved the circulation of the oceans and atmosphere I would like to give it a try to.
The rivers that I got from Shessar indicate that the topography of the maps of the continents differ in some parts quite a lot as the following picture shows:
So e.g. the mountains of Doriant in the mid-western area have to get closer to the sea (the have to be "moved" southwards) and so on...
Ok, that was some rather unique requests. But they sounds like good ideas.
Having a better FT file would be nice. When we originally generated the FT file, we only used it as a loose guide for the continent mappers, we didn't want thir mapping to be too restrictive. But backporting those changes into the FT file would be really cool, since we could provide a FT file for download that matches the world closer.
As for ocean currents, the only map I know about that do implement those is the Errynor map (Northern Alarius), so you'll want to take that into account.
So feel free to go ahead, I am looking forward to your results.
I would also like to reserve YlandXi in the XinXing region on Kumarikandam please. I am also doing it for the Cartographers' Guilds competition, in Sue's Asian Town style.

Thanks!

Thanks for considering the atlas.
I would like to reserve the immediate surroundings (mile or so out), and also encounter maps/floor plans of Sarin Tower itself.
It's in the Vertshusen Region of Dunor Valley, Ezrute.

My reservation on the Malajuri map is probably Sanctuary.
That belongs to Lorelei now because she will be finishing the map. It's a combined feat of engineering

I've reserved the area for you.
- Tinevria's Rift by Jedius. Includes lots of background lore in the map descriptions
- Wild Coast by Quenten. As usual, he also throws in some good lore with his map.

I just love that John Speed style.
