  • Winter Village style development (March 2022 CA issue)

Kind of a random fact, but some places use much steeper roofs because if the snow was allowed to accumulate too much on top it might get too heavy for the structure.

  • Foal's Luck Inn and Pub (Ground Floor)

It's really good! I like the layout.

The path near the top-left is the wonkiest, I think it comes from the smooth precise edge lines. If you can fade it a bit more without making it too blurry that might work, otherwise you might have to go in close and break up the line with some wavy-ness or something. Sometimes I like to google one of Mike Schley's D&D maps to see how it actually ended up looking and I tend to notice his paths have clusters/banks of grass that seem to try and spill out onto the road, overlapping it a little but then receding.

  • Rolling Hills of Maynor

I am pretty happy with them as well.

My first attempts were using the drop shadow effect and the lighted-bevel effects, but it seemed like the drop shadow was bleeding into weird places between layers and creating random darker spots when I did the final render, though it did not do this while working with it.

So I took out the drop shadow and reworked it using a combination of things. There is a lighted bevel, a dark outer glow effect to create the feeling of depth around the base of the hills, a short inner glow effect to create the sense of gradually darkening hill sides, and a couple well placed smooth polygons with a low opacity to manually add some slight shadowing in specific areas.

I had a couple "seams" that were then hidden with varying up the textures a bit on top of them ? It seemed like the inner fade effect wasn't interacting well in some circumstances with all the glows and opacity effects.

  • Forgotten Adventures Annual / Styles

Just don't forget that content created with CC3+ can be used commercially, but that is not the case with Forgotten Adventures. It's definitely a great asset pack for home use though!

  • Discord Server

I just started a discord server for anyone interested. I did find the CC3 Public server, but after looking around I realized the owner is inactive and so there isn't much room to develop a community there.

    Feel free to join, https://discord.gg/tVvZqemKUf

Server is still under construction, but it has a lot of base functionality.

  • Marine Dungeon - a Cartographer's Annual development thread

One thing I liked from their black and white map was that they had rotten/ruined wooden doors since they were submerged in water.

  • Practical Mapping

I would argue that all the physical/visual flair is part of what has made D&D larger than ever. I do agree that it is still flair, and not necessary to run a game. That being said, I think there are individuals who do need the concrete "things" in front of them to immerse in the game, and a more visual map helps engage them. So, while I think it is not necessary for the game, I do think it can be necessary for some players to have a good time, and having a good time is what it's all about.

  • CA style development - "Darklands City" (issues for September and December 2021)

I like the gallows, sewer access, and the funerary item suggestions

I would also suggest stables, wooden palisades (the sort that stab outward) and maybe additional punitive items like stock(ade)s or gibbets.
