@Fersus Well, that is a bloody sensational idea. It never crossed my mind! I'll try that on the bottom of the peninsula and report back.
@Quenten I think it's the time pressure + the fact that I've really no clue with cities, that's frustrating me the most; I'm a month overdue on a revised deadline as it is! When you take out 11 hours for work (inc travelling time), family time, gaming time, there just doesn't seem to be enough hours left to get this done...particularly when it's a map type you're not comfortable with...

Yes, that is exactly how it’s meant to look. To change a fill style, hide everything but the sheet that has the fill you want to change. On the left hand menu, right click the Change Property tool, select Change Fill style, select the fill style you want change, press D then select the fill style you want to change it too. To rescale make sure the fill style is the current one, you can set this by using the eye dropper tool on an appropriate polygon, right click in the Fill Style box on on the top right, you’ll see scaling down the bottom.

Dhakos, The City of Spires - Watabou Cities Annual
As per the other large city I did, the highly detailed styles don't work well IMO for publication as a single Letter/A4 page. They're perfectly fine if you're going to print over multiple pages and stitch together or use virtually but not so much for a standard, single page output.
So, I'm playing around with this to see what a 'manual' Watabou style looks like. If it becomes too difficult or looks rubbish, I'll can it and redo in the Fantasy Cities style (blocks utilising a Color Key effect) - which will keep it consistent with the other city maps I've done for Elric's world.
I'm going to put a couple towers along each of the breakwalls rather than walls; I figure they would assemble catpults or arbalests or whatever on the tower roofs to take care of any ships approaching and the walls would be an unjustifiable expense, After all, if invaders manage to get past their navy, they're already in trouble...
Anywho, here is the progress so far in doing the walls and major roads. I decided to keep the keep in it's original position just to make my life a little easier.
Edit: I added some building blocks, created another tool based off the original so I can change colours easily... This will work quite well I think. I've hidden the Block Outline sheet and bumped up the glow on the City Block sheet to give the required definition (also played around with the glows on the vegetation sheet for the same reason). I reckon this will be my 'go to' for large cities moving forward, somewhat more 'modern' in look, even though it's essentially the same process wise, as the Fantasy Cities style...

WIP Commission, Ancient Tombs
Makes it a little easier on the sanitation engineering staff for when they need to get the sand and cobwebs out of those far corners.
It's actually easier for them to get the bodies out for necromantic rites...?
@DaltonSpence To answer your questions: There is a shaft to be drawn in area 17, I'm not keen on the doors in this style so I haven't finished placing them, this pyramid is not so much a burial monument, it's more a temple to an evil god where a foul ritual is to be performed to release the god from it's prison. I will have another look at the annuals symbols and see if there is something more fitting.
@Loopysue I agree about the pit but I was just too tired to fix it last night, I have to reposition the text labels also.
I doubt I'll furnish every room, I think it will make the map too busy, so I'll just concentrate on the main features. For those that are wondering, the colourful walls in area 4 (using the border symbols) are actually illusory walls. I'll also most likely add some decorative elements to the floors in rooms 4 & 8.
Overall I'm pretty happy with how it's going. That's about 3-4 hours work so far (including writing and deleting a room key) mostly fixing errors I made in the original and symbol searching.

Sent an email to the publisher regarding this, they asked for samples and suggested a double page spread would be a possibility; have sent the sample maps from the Fantasy Cities style and also the Darklands style outputed at 11" x 16" (using the large thatch and slate houses). I'll not be doing anymore on this till I hear back. And yes, the tower in the water is intentional, it's actually part of the textual description of the city.
