  • WIP: Cartographer Guild May Challenge

    Hi Folks,

A bit more work this afternoon. Starting to look more like a map than a psychiatrists tool now...

  • OSR Dungeon Tiles - Quick Test

Another small update and a question.

Firstly, the update. I added a glow effect to both the WALLS and FLOORS sheets for that little extra punch and depth. Obviously, can't do proper shadows because that won't work when I rotate the tiles. I also used the door symbol to cut the walls so I can add wall and secret doors and whatever where I need them, or leave them open as a passage - it's a compromise...

Secondly, the question. Each of these tiles are their own FCW file. How do I convert them into a symbol catalogue to build the map in CC3+?

And let's not forget, there's more than one hemisphere! People also live and thrive below the tropic of capricorn as well, Aboriginies, Aztecs, Myans to name a few...Give the south some love people!

  • WIP: Fane of the Swamp People...

Well, I've spent the evening doing the underground level withpiut really thinking too much and I've made a bit of an error. Given that the sacrificial altar is the circular room, why would anyone, including psychotic, excuse me, devout worshippers, of a frog-like demon/deity bring sacrifices from the upper fane, through their records room to feed the victims soul to their rather unpleasant 'deity'?

Important Lesson: Which is one I always seem to forget; is think about the story of your map, who lives, works, worships there or whatever? And always sketch out your maps first to avoid having to make major edits later, as I will now have to do to the below.

  • running CC3+ on a Virtual Machine on a Mac??????????

    Hi Helen,

I run CC3+ on a Mac running Big Sur using your Option C. Originally I had it running via Crossover 19 on OS Catalina (on a high spec Mac), when I updated the OS to Big Sur it did not support Crossover 19 so I was left with essentially 4 choices, buy the unlimited update and support license of Crossover (an extra cost of several hundred dollars) to avoid this happening again, continue to update Crossover each time it was required at an extra $70 each time, bite the bullet and run it via Bootcamp (nil cost) or simply use my work laptop (also nil cost, but if I retire or get put off, I have to give the laptop back...).

I chose the Bootcamp option because:

    a) It's free. You don't HAVE to buy a Windows 10 licence to run Windows legally and

    b) I like using a big screen for drawing maps.

To run Windows on Bootcamp without a licence is very easy. Download the Windows 10 ISO file. Use the Bootcamp assistant to set up windows. Once it's all setup you can re-install CC3+ and its addons via Windows. The unlicensed version runs fine, there is some reduced functionality which as far as I can tell does not impact CC3+ but as I only use it for CC3+, who cares? There is a little watermark on the bottom right of the screen asking you to Activate Windows.

I'm not sure with Bootcamp if it will run on your external drive which would be the best option based on your screen shots. I created mine at 120GB which is probably too small and would recommend doubling that at least. You can access output files for sharing, i.e. JPEG and PNG files, via the Bootcamp Disk icon on your Mac desktop but can't write to it.

    Hope this helps.

  • WIP: Mega-dungeon, Dorag Skel Level 1A

When I first created this, on paper then in Ps CS4 B&W, I had the brilliant idea to create and sell on the DMs Guild, Dungeon Tiles based on the tables in the D&D 5E DMG. You can se the intial development over on the Cartographers Guild here.

Now obviously, there would need to be some modifications and limits set as the sheer number of possible combinations for passages and chambers is absolutely immense (88 just for the passages) and whilst I can be a bit pedantic at times, that's way too much even for me.

So I thought CC3+ is imminently suited for creating these and as I'm now on unpaid leave due to COVID lockdowns (I've applied for assistance from the Government) it's time to revisit...below are a couple of samples, I think I prefer the masked version, thoughts? There would be a higher resolution version with grid for print and the below for VTT...

Further to the above. I'm also working on the opening adventure of a modern era campaign (serialised) for Pulp Cthulhu. The inspiration for this is Matthew Reilly's, Jack West Jnr series of novels and movies like The Kingsman franchise. The climax of the adventure will take place in Pnakotus (?) the Yithian City in outback WA from Lovecraft's, The Shadow Out of Time story.

Any suggestions for a good style to do something like the below?

  • Community Atlas 500th Map Voting Thread - Please vote

Here, here. Excellent job everyone! You made voting extremely difficult, there are some extremely good maps to choose from.

I'm a little dissapointed I didn't get to finish my map in time even though compared to many of the entries it is much simpler. Maybe next time.
