  • Cartographer's Annual - all the issues linked in one place

That's the point. I don't need to make them stickies. They won't clog up the all discussions page, but they are still super-easy to find by visiting the category directly, since it will be focused with a rather short list of posts.

Vanilla does have two kinds of stickies though, category stickies, and all discussion stickies, so I can sticky something inside a category without making iy a "global" sticky. But that is hardly needed as long as the contents of those categories are rather limited

Oh, it is certainly quite wet here. Don't think it has gotten any dryer lately. But we do have our nice days too, although looking out my office window right now does not reveal one of those.

And fjord in English is just fjord.

I just wish the fish market kept it's traditions. Now (the parts of it that sells fish) are mainly a tourist trap, selling overly expensive sandwiches and baguettes with sea food, and the same canned food you can find in the nearby supermarket. Back in the day, you could buy fish straight from the fishermen's boats.

  • Grid size after Resize Drawing Area?

That shouldn't really happen unless there is something wrong with the MAP BORDER layer in your map (entities on this layer determine the extents on your map).

For the grid, the easiest workaround is to just click the "select points" button in the dialog instead of Apply, as this lets you manually set the location of the grid. Make sure Snap is on so you hit the lower left corner precisely.

You'll want to check the MAP BORDER layer for entities though, as wrong entities here may also act as an edge for drawing tools. Normally, this layer should only have a few lines that determine the edge of the map.

  • What have I done to my bitmap settings?

This happens when you try to access a set of tools that doesn't match the current template. By default, only the fills required for the appropriate tools for the styles are included in a map. Change that style setting to the appropriate style of your map, and you should see that the tools work fine.

If you want to use tools from another style, make a new map in that style, then in your current map, use draw -> insert file, pick your new blank map and hit ok. Once the map is on the cursor, ready to place, hit Esc. This will import the fills from that style into your current map.

  • Help matching image grid to CC grid

For scaling, I prefer non-visual scale for scenarios like this.

First measure the size of a hex in the image using Info-distance. Try to find points to make this as precise as possible. This is the source size. For my example here, let us assume this is 0.8

Now, measure the the distance on the CC3+ hex grid. Make sure to measure it in the same way, for example between two corners of the hexes. This is the destination size. For my example here, let us assume this is 1.93

Now, just right click :CC2SCALE:, select non-visual scale, set the origin point to somewhere. When the command line asks for the scale, simply type in source size/destination size, i.e 0.8/1.93 straight on the command line, no need to manually calculate it, and then hit enter.

You can move it with non-visual move much the same way. Just figure out how much it needs to move, and then give the distance as @distx,disty. The @-sign here refers to relative cooridnates instead of absolute ones. (Although in this case, perhaps it might be eaasier to just move them to an absolute position)

  • No outline or bounding box for bitmaps?

Hit Tab (while moving something). That changes how cursor previews are rendered.

  • Really Weird problem with Combine Paths

    Here's a fixed version.

As Sue also noticed, the line for your polygon was double, so your actual polygon ended up being that o-width space between the "inner" and "outer" lines.

I split it open, then ran DELDUPS to get rid of duplicate nodes, then joined it again.

  • October Community Challenge - City Streets - VOTING POLL in first post

I might do that one day. It is actually non-trivial to pick a good atlas city for this challenge. If the city is too large, the navigation links gets almost invisible, and if the city is too detailed, it isn't as fun as a contest because the look of the buildings is locked down already, providing little freedom. Some cities also have a very heavy .fcw file which may not be too kind to those with a weaker computer, so I want to avoid using those for a challenge like this as well.

I do have a few other candidates though. But I also try to vary the content of the challenges, so it won't be streets next time.
