  • Accessing the Trace Command

You can however make a drawing tool that emulates one of the basic tools. Just set it with the desired shape, and then set all properties of the tool to use "current properties". This will make it act just like a basic tool, but it will have the options like trace (provided the shape picked for the drawing tool supports it).

  • Can someone explain how I can make my map print on the entire page?

Yea, there is actually a white polygon around most maps by default, on the SCREEN sheet, it is used to hide stuff that might be sticking outside the map border, since a drawing is technically borderless. But the printer will still see that as a valid area to include int he printing.

What you can do to avoid it is to print just the 'active window' instead of 'everything'. Before doing that, simply zoom in to your map, and maybe resize the CC3+ window accordingly so that the view only shows your actual map, nothing more. The best way do do this is to first use the Zoom Window command to define a tight rectangle around your map, and then resize the window afterwards, because CC3+ will remember the zoom you defined and always fit that part inside the window. Also remember, CC3+ do have the map in a separate inner document window, you can resize that instead of the main CC3+ window.

  • Mapping Europe 1790s

For the second point, CC3+ scales to paper on print. The map itself should be scaled according to the actual real world size, not the print size, so if you wish to cover an are 500 by 500 miles, set the map dimensions to 500 by 500.

In the print dialog, you can then specify desired print scale when you print, or if you export to an image, set the desired pixel size as needed by your print.

Which ProFantasy folder are you saving to?

It sounds like you're saving to C:\Program Files (x86)\ProFantasy\CC3Plus, which is the programs installation directory which is not supposed to contain user files. In fact, Windows have protections in place to prevent users to save to that folder, one of these is folder virtualization which is the reason you may see files inside the program, but not when trying to view the same folder using file explorer. The other protection is UAC.

Personally, I don't recommend saving your maps (or exports) inside either ProFantasy folder, but rather use your documents folder, this is where user files are supposed to be kept. But if you wish to save inside the ProFantasy folder, make sure to use the data directory, not the installtion directory (c:\ProgramData\ProFantasy\CC3Plus by default)

  • Is CA 213 just a collection of already existing symbols?

The annual isn't intended to just be 12 issues of new artwork. As stated on the product page:

Each month, subscribers get a mini add-on to CC3+. It might be a new drawing style, a new set of symbols, a collection of maps, or set of tools to tackle a specific drawing type.

While maps are not the most common of issues, if you look back at previous years, you'll find that there is indeed a collection of various map issues sprinkled among the years.

Different kind of issues bring different values to different people. A nice map with a detailed description is great for improving one's map-making skills and learn new ways of doing things, and may even be used as a ready to go map for an adventure.

You're not holding down the ctrl key are you?

If you hold down the ctrl key when moving the mouse (including using the mouse accessibility keys), it will do scaling exactly as you describe.

If you are using sticky keys, depending on the config and how many times you hit the key, the ctrl key may stay enabled after using that ctrl+q for quick move causing this behaviour.

I did some testing with these settings on, and found that it is not hard accidentally enabling control.

  • [WIP] Community Atlas - The Staggering Moose - Interior

    @jslayton stated:

but I usually care if the hole is roughly large enough for the Big Ugly Monster to fit through (not much is more embarrassing the getting your BUM stuck halfway through a hole in the roof).

    Like this?

Maybe you could hide one of these up in the attic Shessar?

And if you have joined in but haven't submitted your entry yet, just remember the October 1st deadline. Still plenty of time to finish your map, but you don't want to miss the deadline.

Remember, there are both prizes and glory at stake :)

  • [WIP] Order of the Fist Monastery

The scale of the rock fill causes it to appear a bit pixelated. You need to change the fill resolutions a bit. Try to go into :CC2RESMODE: and change the fill style resolutions from there, just go in and divide every value by 2.

  • Menus missing

I've never seen errors happen before when running the cc3menuconfig program, but there are some interesting observations there.

First of all, the instructions, which are visible along with the errors clearly indicate that all menu files be processed (*.mnu), but as seen from the errors, only a selection of the menu files generate errors (AAT, Per, CA, dioramas, dungeon), while others that I know for certain you would have (like fcw32 and city). I assume these are processed without errors since they don't appear.

Now, errors on some files and not others tells that there are most likely something weird going on with your install. I could think of a few possible things, one being that the file system permissions on those files are off, simply not allowing you to modify them. The other is that those files might be corrupt in some way.

File system permissions should normally be set by the CC3+ installer/updater, but it is worth having a check. Try opening up AAT.mnu in notepad (making sure to NOT use the "run as administrator" option. Can you open it at all? Do it look like a menu file (i.e is the contents similar to fcw32.mnu). Make a small minor change in the file like simply editng the spelling of "right" on the first line and try to save the file. Are you allowed to simply save it, or do notepad pop up the save as dialog even if you tried a standard save?
