  • What kind of music do you listen while mapping?

Critical Role is cool. I prefer watching the actual stream recordings and not just the podcast, since there is much visual information in the videos and on-screen goofing. Works great when run on a second screen, because it doesn't require your full attention.

  • Mapping contest reminder

    Hi everyone,

This is just a quick reminder that we have now hit February, so it is now slightly less than one month left of the competition. Still plenty of time to make a nice map.

For those not aware of the competition, all the details are in this topic. But in short, it is a competition with prizes where the idea is to make a dungeon with a fire and/or ice theme.

The absolute simplest way of participating is to make a level for our mega-dungeon, which only have one basic requirement, since it is going to be one of many levels in a large dungeon, it should have exactly one entry in from above, and one exit going further down into the complex. Rest is up to you.

If you are unsure about anything, please don't hesitate to ask. I'll rather answer a few questions than having people not participating because things were unclear. I know there is a lot of text on that other post, necessary to ensure everything is clear, but this is intended as a contest for every CC3+ user with a low bar of entry.

So, please join in on the fun. I'd love to see lots of entries for the contest.

Remember, all entries must be posted in the main contest thread before the end of the month of February. The entry is just an exported image in a decent resolution of your dungeon, and optionally the .fcw file if you wish to allow the dungeon to be used in the community atlas, but that last part is optional.

And if you need some ideas for how to do things for a ice cave, check out my recent live stream.

  • Is there a way to scale hatch fills?

The Hatch style is set in the Outline options for the tool.

  • [WIP] DOTR The End of Castle Wittgenstein

Unfortunately, the symbols in area don't obey the random rotation symbol properties.

As for steampunk, nothing in the official symbols as far as I can remember. Would have made a nice annual though.

  • Completed: section as regional map

    Looking great.

And I love the endpoint modifer too. One of my heavily used tools.

  • [WIP] Gordo the bard

Lack of tag is just an oversight. I've added a 'Character' tag now. You can edit your post to add it if you wish.

As for music instruments, I don't think there is any available except for the harp. Maybe one of the free community symbol sets have symbols seen from the correct angle that it might be used. I don't think there are any Character Artist compatible symbols, but a top-down dungeon-scale symbol might work. Likewise, you may find an image on the internet which is usable.

  • Cave Editing has Stopped Working

The edit feature can't handle changes like that. Once you put a break in the wall, it is no longer a polygon, but a line. It might even be more than one line if you have multiple gaps. You can delete the walls, then use change like draw tool on it to bring it back to the original state, then you should be able to edit it, but of course, the gaps will be lost and have to be recreated later. Otherwise you'll have to do with the normal node editing tools.

  • Templates showing incorrectly

Hmm.. That size and filecount basically matches the installation directory of CC3+ (as opposed to the data directory). But you don't get asked about the installation directory during install, the installer only asks for the data directory, the installation directory is ALLWAYS placed on c:\Program Files x86\ProFantasy\CC3Plus (Notice the Program Files (x86) in there instead of ProgramData, they are easy to mistake for each other).

Did you ever manually move the installation directory to this location during a previous install? (It is possible to do, allthough it is really unnecessary, because as you just saw yourself, it is only 23 megs, so it doesn't really take up any space, even if you have the tiniest SSD in the world for your Windows install moving the install directory doesn't have any impact).

Are you sure you picked d:\ProFantasy for your data directory when you reinstalled CC3+ this time? Or even if you picked it, maybe you got a dialog telling it was already files here so it couldn't use it and you just ignored it and clicked proceed? (Which would have caused it to revert back to the default dir).

In any case, the data files should not be installed to the same directory as the installation files.

At this point, since you were reinstalling, I am not sure if d:\ProFantasy is part of your install at all. You can check this by right clicking on the CC3+ icon on the desktop and choose properties, and see where it is launched from.
