Building a world from scratchTo date the final map I have completed, or almost compiled is Lawah. A town in the Mysty Fern Woods. Finally it also includes a writeup.

Building a world from scratchI have put some effort into studing how a medieval town should be structured. Many businesses and professions are noisy, smelly or require lots of room. So I placed those away from the town proper. I also used the random city generator. To quickly get the basic shape, and then rearranged to add additional roads as the river. It is good up to 600 buildings or so, but can't go higher.

Building a world from scratchHere is Eshana. it has been settled for over 2000 years, but was torn apart 200 years ago. The high-res file has an export to a poster sixed map at 300 dpi.

Building a world from scratchThis is the continent I am focusing on. It is called Grarera. The rivers were created in Fractal Terrains, but the courses didn't quite flow right, so I redrew each one. I am still working on forests , lakes and such in areas that I have not focused on yet.

Building a world from scratchThis is the world, generated in Fractal terrains. It is known as Plantera. I am avoiding worrying about map projections, and distortions. I am simply using this as my map, and ignoring those issues. Fractal Terrains has several map projections available, and it does a fair job of describing the distortions in each projection.

Building a world from scratchApparently the import from Fractal terrains used a custom palette. I missed that. Thank you. Here it is with the custom palette attached. Along with the poster sized map.
