Forum Guidelines & Help - Please Read
Welcome to the ProFantasy community forum! The purpose of this community is to ask questions, share tricks, and generally learn how to use ProFantasy products. Current patches and tech support are available from the ProFantasy website.
Guidelines
Because our users make up a very active community, some guidelines have been put forth to keep the forum running smoothly and on topic.
- Please be civil and polite in your postings. We are a friendly bunch of people here, and we'd like to keep it that way. Disagreeing with someone is fine, but please do it in a calm and civil manner.
- We try to make this a place where everyone can feel welcome, so please avoid sensitive topics like religion, politics or the latest news. What you consider harmless fun may be an infuriating provocation to someone else.
- Try to stay on topic. A little conversation mixed in with software related messages is acceptable, but please don't stray too far off-topic. Respect moderators closing a topic, if they decide it to be irrelevant.
- Please try to avoid "Me too" postings. If you agree with someone, that's great; but put some other information in the message as well. You can also use the reactions (like, awesome, insightful, lol) if you just want to show your support without writing anything.
- In many cases, the answer to your question is already available. The forum is fully searchable, so before you post a question, please click on the "Search" tab above and try whether a few keywords relating to your question bring up an answer.
- No "Virus Warning," "Help A Sick Child," or any of their ilk. Please keep this spam to yourself.
- No advertising for sites or products that do not directly relate to ProFantasy.
- Images in posts are automatically resized to a maximum of 1000 by 1000 pixels. If you want to post higher resolution images, you have your own personal image gallery in your user profile. Images in posts are limited to 2MB, while the gallery accepts up to 5MB. Please consider using .jpg images whenever possible, as there is very little visual difference between jpg and png, and jpg images are about 6 times smaller, which means they load much faster and is much friendlier for people with slow or metered connections.
- Please DON'T send Private Messages to admins/mods/knowledgeable people to ask for help unless you need to convey sensitive information. These people are not your personal support staff. Post in the open, that benefits everyone else who might have the same problem, and it helps you get an answer quicker, because there are more than one person who can reply.
- Don't post copyrighted material or anything else you don't have explicit permission to post. Provide a link to the source instead. If you post images that are not your own, make sure to properly credit the artist.
- If you see any objectionable content, please hit the Flag link in the post to report it. If you are harassed via private messages, please notify a mod or administrator.
- Please do start your own discussion when asking for help. Asking a question in another thread just because the topic there is somewhat similar to your issue just muddles up the discussion as people try to help you both. Of course, you are allowed to ask follow up questions in direct response to what is being posted, but if you ever feel the need to start your post with "I have a similar issue..." or similar, it is better to start your own discussion. If it is relevant, just post a link in your discussion back to the other one.
- Posts consisting mainly of AI-generated text are not accepted in this forum, and will immediately be deleted. While AI's like Large Language Models (LLM) can often be helpful to find answers, they often also contain misleading or wrong information. This is especially true for a niche program like CC3+ where suggestions tends to included reference to non-existing features.
We're trying not to bog anyone down with rules, but some order must be maintained. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail us.
Help
If you have any issues using the forum, for example trouble registering or logging in, please get in touch with support via e-mail and we will get you sorted.
More information and helpful guides related to the use of this forum can be found here.
You can also found a curated section of helpful resources that may aid your mapping here.
Data Deletion
If you wish to have your personal data deleted from the forum, please send a request via support e-mail.
Thanks!

Jim Pierce 1947 - 2024
It is with a heavy heart that I announce that long time friend and community member Jim Pierce (@JimP) is no longer among us. He lived to the age of 77 years (June 27th)
He died today, December 19th 2024, after a long period of illness that resulted from complications after his heart surgery back in April.
Jim was one of the real old-timers here in the community, participating in the Campaign Cartographer community long before this forum was a thing, back when we used the mailing list. He joined before me, so I don't know exactly how long he's been around, but it has been a while. The oldest message from him I've been able to find in the mailing list archives was from 2003, but the archives aren't complete and hard to search, so I am pretty sure he started participating before that.
Most of us will probably remember Jim as one of the most prolific mappers around. He always had a bunch of fantasy worlds in his head for which he made maps and websites, never running out of projects, as well as making hundreds of maps for the community atlas. He seemed to always have a head full of inspiration and fantastic ideas, and he cared a lot for all his worlds.
Unfortunately, his hosting accounts have expired, but I've archived his websites at https://jimp.monsen.cc/ where a lot of his work can be found. His contributions to the community atlas can be found at https://atlas.monsen.cc/Search?author=JimP . And lastly, his forum gallery can be found at https://forum.profantasy.com/profile/gallery/30/JimP.
Jim won't just be remembered for his maps though, as he was also always a kind and helpful fellow, always trying to help people with their problems. He also had other hobbies in addition to mapping. He enjoyed playing computer games, Everquest in particular, he enjoyed walking and camping, pearl work and poetry, so I am sure he made his mark on other communities in addition to ours.
Thanks to his sister, Lou Anna, for letting us know what happened. Our love and thoughts go out to you and the rest of your family in this difficult time.
Farewell Jim. We'll miss you. I guess you are on the bridge of the Starship Wanderer now, heading out and exploring the unknown.

Community Atlas 1000th Map Competition - The Winners
The voting for the competition is now over. Thanks for voting for your favorites, and thanks to everyone who participated in the contest.
In total, 30 people voted for their favorite maps, and after tallying up the score, this is the result.
- 1st place ($75 voucher), with 121 points - @Ricko Hasche with Metzvel
- 2nd place ($50 voucher), with 49 points - @Shessar with Ober
- 3rd place ($25 voucher), with 44 points - @Lorelei with Naru Village
Not far behind, Quenten and Mathieu Gans share 4th place with 35 points.
And of course, part of this competition was also about reaching 1000 maps in the atlas, a great milestone, and one of the maps submitted has been randomly drawn to receive the honor of being the official 1000th map in the atlas.
And that honor (and a $50 voucher) goes to @Royal Scribe with Fon'Anor
Thanks again to everyone who contributed. I loved every single map entered into the competition, but we had to declare some winners. But even if you scored dead last, I noticed that every single mapper did end up with several votes, so every single one of you had at least one map that multiple people thought should be in the top three. If anyone wants to see the exact votes, they can go back to the voting topic and check them out.
I'll get the vouchers out in a couple of days, and also hopefully start integrating the maps into the atlas as well, but that will take a little while. I may also need to have you fix things if there are any problems, like invalid bitmaps and such.

I realized while the above was made to fit very well within a forum post, it was not too friendly when trying to see the larger version. So, here's a 4K version in 16:9 aspect ratio. Should fit much better within a maximized browser window, and is also perfectly shaped as a wallpaper for the common monitor resolutions. -
Free Symbols & Artwork
This thread about free symbols and artwork is one of the curated threads in the Resources category. Here you can find links to various sources for free artwork. The content of this thread will grow over time as more resources are posted in the forum. This thread contains two lists. The first are resources that are properly integrated with CC3+ and use the feature of the program. The second list contain places which contains great artwork you can use in CC3+, but which haven't been prepared for use with CC3+, which mean you need to import these resources yourself.
Since the resources in the first category comes prepared for CC3+, it does mean that it is easy to share map files with others that use these resources, since they can just download and install these just like any official CC3+ add-on. For the second category, this is unlikely to be possible, unless they takes steps to do thing the exact same way as you. You'll therefore need to take a bit more care when utilizing these. The points don't just apply to sharing with others, but also when you take your own maps to a new computer.
Only this top post is curated, users can use the comments below to add links themselves, but I suggest that you do this by starting your own discussion in the Cartographic Resources category, and link to that discussion from your comment here. That way each source have it's own thread where it can be discussed. I'll add the best links to the curated content, but the comments here will be a way to discover even more resources than I showcase.
Only free resources will be allowed here, but it is OK if the same site also sells resources, as long as the free offering can stand by itself and isn't just a small free sample for advertising the paid resources.
Please keep copyrights in mind. Even though the resources here are free to download, they are usually not free to redistribute or share with others.
As time goes by, some links may get outdated as sites die and gets replaced by other sites. If you find any such links here, please use the Flag link to notify me about this but please don't use Flag to ask me to add links.

This list tries to collect some of the good sources for free artwork that can be used as symbols or fills within CC3+. Keep in mind that the artwork found here won't be prepared for use in CC3+, so you will need to import it yourself.Of course, there are thousands of sites on the net where you can download free artwork, and I don't plan on listing them all here. The criteria for getting on this list is generally that the site offers artwork that is interesting for general CC3+ use, containing textures suitable for terrain/walls/floors, and images appropriate for mapping symbols. Collection size is a factor, and so is site reputation. But I am not trying to make an exhaustive list, just a small set of good resources. Please post any additional resources you may have in the comments below. Even if they don't make my curated list here, they will still be able to find for users browsing this thread. For the list below, the link on the element title (if any) leads to the forum post introducing/discussing this resource, while the link in parenthesis is the direct link to the site in question.- Shessar's Art Assets

Festive Winter Card Challenge - Ended - Please vote for your favorite
For a small challenge in December, I challenge you to make the design for a festive winter-themed post card in CC3+.
This is just a small friendly challenge, No prizes for this one, except for the eternal glory of a shiny medal forum badge to the winner.
The idea is to design a small map that would fit a post card, so a pretty small map. It needs to be winter or seasonal holiday-themed (For example Christmas, New Years or other observable holiday).
No restrictions on art resources used, you can use imported symbols and fills, but the map itself should be made in CC3+, and no post-processing in external image editors. Obviously, even if you can import external art-resources, making a complete card in an external editor and then importing that as a single image into CC3+ isn't acceptable.
The challenge is now over, please use the poll below to vote for your favorite. All the images are on this page, just scroll down to see them. The poll will close on January 24th.

Guide: CC3+ Button Images in Posts
This forum has the ability to embed CC3+ buttons in posts, which can be a great visual aid when explaining something to people. There are two versions, image with text (ex: :CC2MCHANGE:), and just the image (ex: |CC2CO|)
Adding these into a post is just a matter of taking the CC3+ button image identifier and putting it between two colons or two vertical bars, like this:
:PERIBOX: ⇒ :PERIBOX:
|GLOBE| ⇒ |GLOBE|
Note that this will just show as the code when you are editing the post, you won't see the actual button until you actually post your comment.
The complete list of codes.
