Great maps Lorelei, and .. wow, Quenten, there is some beaches where i do live that are very similar to the one you posted! Considering where i do live, it´s quite funny.
Where do you live, Medio? I have done a map of my island, and the pub here. I am considering doing a map of the main settlement of Whitemark (pop 350) - our 'capital', both in modern style, like SS3 (which I haven't used yet) and fantasy style. A lovely beach - we only have 63 beaches on our 45x20 mile island.
I love all this Island talk. I too live on a barrier island named Merritt Island laying between two brackish "rivers" we have no beaches as such, but do enjoy many water sports. For me the greatest attraction is the occasional loud thundering events taking place here.

I live in Galicia, Northwest Spain. Much greener than many people could believe
Too good about so many beaches! Are any of them good for surfing? Here beaches are top for it (actually, one of them hosts one of the World Surf League events). With 63 beaches, i understand some should work!
I decided to google about number of beaches here (it´s freaking high). Here in Galicia there is a peninsula which has 64 beaches, called Arousa. It has in just ... 7 square kilometers!! In Imperial measurements, it´s like 2,7 square miles... Of course, many of those must be small as hell haha but some beaches here are just gorgeously big, one is 7 kms long.
Still, would kill for going there where you do live!
A lot of my seaside village map is based on the landscape near Montauk Point about a 45 minute drive at The End (as it is dubbed). There's a lovely lighthouse and some cliff dunes. We've got some really nice beaches here - all varieties - the north shore of Long Island's beaches are mostly rocky and require water shoes for comfort on them and have no rough surf. But the south shore where I live, there are miles and miles and miles of sandy beaches with glorious waves for riding and surfing, especially at Montauk where the surf is about as amazing as it gets in the Mid-Atlantic region. It's really nice having all the variety so nearby in any given direction. We've got about 60 or so beaches, as well.
First pic is my map inspired by my shores Next is me a few years back on one of our sandy south shore beaches and the third is the rocky shores of Montauk which mostly inspired the village Oh And lastly...seals visiting Montauk in Feb/Mar. 'Cause....Seals
What? Oh, Remy, barefoot in the warm sand is just a lovely feeling. We were meant to be barefoot anyway. Likely why i prefer it. I LOATHE when the weather turns and i need to squeeze my feet into constricting, cold protecting footwear.
And thanks. I complain often about where I live (mostly because it is literally one of the top 3 of the most expensive places to live in the US - the taxes and real estate market are absurd AND because it is largely a red district in my mostly blue state of NY and the people are jerks, lol), but it really is a pretty place.
My backyard. Wintertime sheet effects, for Monsen's benefit. The ocean is about an hour from here, but we don't have 'beaches', we have 'a coastline'.
@lorelei I agree with Monsen, you are quite lovely! That design on your skirt looks almost like it belongs on a map.
@Monsen - it isn't advisable to spend a lot of time doing it, just ask Old Uncle Three Toes. The only shop teacher I ever knew who had more fingers than toes.
Great photos all. If Remy would allow it, we could start up a thread for these sort of things ie about us and our homes rather than maps - it would help get us to see each other as people not just fantastic cartographers.
That snow is really nice I have to travel a bit to see snow in winter! Now it´s entirely dissapeared, would have to travel almost 900 kms to watch it and i love snow!

Go for it Quenten. It would be good to know you all a little bit better.
We try not to let this place go too much off-topic, but a few social threads are fine, as long as they don't go into the hot opinionated stuff, like politics and religion, those kind of threads I would shut down quickly as those kinds of discussions tend to ruin a community rather than build it. But talking a bit about ourselves is fine. Just try to keep it to one (or a few threads), not a separate thread for each person.

Yeah. It was a lot different in 1967 when I moved here. And the kids in my school said, if you think it is "bad" now, you should have see it in 1961.
Having said that, its a lot nicer than living in Orlando or NYC.

I feel cold shivers running up my back when I see you are walking barefoot on that horrible substance though.

When I look at all these lovely pictures I just want to book a plane ticket and come by and visit you girls and guys.
