I used to paint little models like that for a hobby... does that make me a geek, even though I've never played D&D? Or should I puff up my feathers in a bluster of self importance and claim to be a Nerd, since I have a whole range of similar such weirdling hobbies... but can't hold a real life face-to-face conversation for the life of me?
I decided years ago that people who put me down, even after I explained what I was doing, didn't get any more of my time or talk after that. I had better things to do. I'm proud of my sites, my maps, and all of my hobbies, like beadwork. Finding the time to work on it is a problem though.
Lol...I still do paint those tiny toy soldiers. I have them in 32mm, 28 mm, and 6mm scale. In all I must own somewhere around 20,000 or more miniatures. I've also got the rules for every edition of dungeons and dragons, plus lots of modules, supplements, and dungeon tiles. ...yup...I'm THAT guy.
Oh, I'm very pleased to meet you, Tonnichiwa! I'm the girl who was too busy painting her little lead men to want to go to the end of school disco (what they call a ball nowadays)
I've added links to all my new sites for rpgs on the Crestar menus, you might see something there you hadn't seen in years. Tunnels and Trolls, The Fantasy Trip, Mazes and Minoutaurs, and Wizard's Realm. I guess I need to be like George Burns, I'm booked for years.
@Gathar - beautiful map.there Gathar! And even though descriptions will be ignored, I enjoyed the I sight you gave us on your map. It's somewhat similar to the campaign I'm creating for my group! Welcome to.the competition!
As for the nerd/dork/ geek debate... I always though nerds were the brainy, socially inept ones, dorks were the bumbling button.class clown types that hid their braininess, and geeks were the brainy ones with the weird hobbies, that had social skills but just weren't 'cool' enough to hang with the 'popular' crowd... But we're the ones to go to when you needed help with obscure stuff.
I took it from a friend's story, that takes place in our campaign world.
The Younger Sister fortress, named so by mistake, for size, not age (its bigger, younger copy a hundred miles away got the name of Elder Sister), used to guard a busy mining road, until the iron ran out in the mines. Half deserted for decades, it was then taken over by a group of rebels, who were subsequently slain after a short siege by the King's army, and put in the shallow graves at the base of the north wall.
Apart from the usual barracks, storeroom and keep, it features a small temple to the Sun Goddess Solas, with a mandatory open-air prayer courtyard.
Shessar, now that the contest is closed for voting, are we allowed.to post these maps elsewhere? Or do you still prefer us to wait? I completely understand if you do prefer we wait, I just don't want to goof up on my next set of uploads :-D!
Wait a couple of days LS. Once the person who is going to verify that they aren't posted anywhere has had a chance to do his thing, I'll give the word. Probably by Sunday evening. After that you'll be free to post them or share the fcw's or discuss at will.
The technical parts of the judging are complete so feel free to post your maps where ever you please, discuss how wonderful they all are, share fcw's, etc.
We're new to this 'judging thing' so thanks for your patience.

Ok. My .fcw is now attached to the original competition entry post, as well as link provided to higher resolution versions and a daytime version. For anyone who wants to grab it and use it for private purposes, go ahead.

I will share mine now for anyone to use if they like. :-)

Good stuff Shessar. I'll do the same as Monson in a day or so and attach the FCW and post a link to a high res image in my original post of the map for the competition.

And done. Added a couple of notes to get the best out of the map
I'm glad everyone had fun with this and thanks for sharing the fcw's!
It turns out that I am having outpatient surgery on Friday so we are meeting tonight to finish our voting. I'll be announcing the winners sometime tomorrow instead of Friday so stay tuned!

I used them for table top wargaming, but for RPG, I favor tokens.
I just make my own. :-)
@Dogtag - Tell your ...errr...friend...to hurry!
Five hours remaining...
Sincere congratulations on 35th anniversary from me and my gaming groups!

Thanks for setting up the competition Shessar - it was real cool seeing what everyone came up with and it was a lot of fun! :-)
