There is nothing in the rules about discussing the entries, so of course you can comment and compliment as you like. I just prefer to keep the discussion in this thread so that the competition thread isn't cluttered. The occasional comment over there is no big deal, I just don't want the entries to get lost in the talk. :-D
I agree, there are sure to be more than 3 entries. I mean...who doesn't want a chance to win free software? :-D
I just wanted to bump this thread back near the top, just in case some of our less frequent posters didn't notice it. I hope some of our newer members see it and decide to join the fun too.
I just wish I was brave enough to do one, but like I said - I know nothing about what a real battlemap is all about - never having played - never mind being a DM!
Sue, I really don't think this is an issue: For a map to be a battlemap, it just needs three conditions: - Be on a specific scale that allows players to put markers representing their characters on the map, but everything is detailed in the contest rules - Be an interesting place for a fight, and I think what makes a place interesting for a fight for a rpg is very similar to what makes it interesting for a story: Places to hide, places to get cover, ways to get sneak behind your foes, ways to use the environment to your advantage... - Be of small size, because otherwise it would not fit on a table (I personally think those requirements are a little bit at odds, because I tend to think that an interesting place for a battle should be bigger than what fits on a table with the classical scale). Once again, this is specified in the rules.
And then, to be a successful battle map, it needs to be gorgeous, but I don't think I can teach you anything in this area
The vouchers can be split over several orders if they are worth more than the shop content. Our system will remember the amount remaining and people can re-use that for future orders.
Just saw your entry. It's awesome! I've always done lighting and shadows manually but after seeing your map I'll have to have a crack at proper lighting. Good job.
Kind of you to say so, Mappy. I really enjoyed doing it, though I didn't realise just how dark I'd made it till I saw it there next to everyone elses! LOL! I admire very much the shadow you did for that rather colourful bird you found for your map, so doing lighting and shadows by hand is probably something I should have a go at myself
Sue!!!! Your map is amazing!!! Once that s competition is over, you are going to HAVE to post it!!! Love love LOVE the lighting effects! They are absolutely brilliant!!!!!
Its just a couple of lights... you know? Couldn't have done it without Remy's instructions earlier (I didn't even know how to make them work before), and also Dogtag, who provided a couple of links to the work of a real artist... who's name I've temporarily forgotten, but I'll be back with an edit for you...

Remember, thanks to ProFantasy, even if you aren't one of the top prize winners, you will still receive a $10 voucher just for entering.
Ralf has been kind enough to Sticky the contest thread to the top of the forums so if you've missed the contest info you can find it there.

I might think bout it, then, but I'm making no promises
Sue, I bet you could come up with something spectacular...you'd blow us all away!
Thanks Ralf - for everything!

(Sorry Dogtag - can never remember the syntax for making proper links)
Also, great map, Loopysue! The lighting and colors really sell it
