A few times a year, I run games at Conventions here in Melbourne, and I get my players to select their characters by selecting Character Artist images I've done of them. I use the same two sets of characters at different conventions. So my first priority with CA3 is to try and redo the old CA Pro images in CA3.

Having managed to get CA3 installed after a struggle, I've found it very decent. I'd love more symbols - who wouldn't - but it really is impressive. And I've converted the first of my characters so far, and I thought I'd upload the comparison. I've used CA3 and modified the image in Paint Shop Pro to get details I couldn't get in CA3.

Agreed! And I like the adjustments you've made to the stock CA3 material to bring the new versions closer to the originals.

A party I created for a Christmas Eve game yesterday (running the scenario that can be found at: http://fabledlands.blogspot.com.au/2013/12/silent-night-dragon-warriors-scenario.html )

I am finding it hard to express how pleased I am with CA3 - I have very limited talent in visual art. Anything that let me create these characters in less than two hours is truly impressive.

Sure, there are features I wish it had that it didn't (easy accommodation for left handed characters would have been nice - with CA2, I mirror flipped images, but that only worked well because of its straight facing characters). I've also noticed a couple of places where I think there may be symbols 'missing' (ie,armour pieces that exist for one shoulder only). And I would *love* more symbols - eventually my characters are going to start looking very much alike. I also miss some of the symbols I'd got used to in CA2 for 'non-adventuring' clothes (doublets, etc), and things like beer mugs...

But I really am impressed.

Drednort, this group picture is very good, grat. I will make the picture of my party too.
This is Lady Ingrid, after I read the Essential, and I turn on the figure glow. And I modified the basic tabard with her godesses symbol.

Have you ideas for a glowing around the sword?

For a glow around the sword I'd do the following:

- Add a new sheet to the drawing, calling it MAGIC GLOW or something.
- draw a simple, smooth polygon around the sword representing your glow, in the color you want the glow to be.
- add a strong blur and a transparency effect to the sheet.

And that's it, a quick and simple glow on the sword.

What's the easiest way to add pictures like the ones above. I have created over 100 different characters and would like to share a few here to view. I have been creating characters by using various character parts to create very interesting images.

I agree with Drednort. I want more symbols. I tried to edit the symbols from CA3, because I like a more barbaric style that fits with the other symbols. Look at the "armour" of my barbarbian and amazon.

I took the originals and deleted simply some parts.

Did you use ca3 or did you use another program. I'm unaware of any tool that will let you delete parts of a symbol in ca3.

You can edit symbols in CC3 -- go into Symbols>Edit Symbol. That will allow you to edit symbols that are in the current map.

This would indeed need to be done in an external bitmap editor (Photoshop, Paint.NET, etc.), as it is the underlying bitmap that gets changed, not the CA3 symbol itself.

Here's Stergen, the half-elven ranger of one of my players. I added the scar and the cloak clasp using simple polys in CA3. I think they came out nicely, especially when viewed at a small-to-medium output size.

Question, how did you get the image to work with ca3. After I edited the image it has a white rectangle around it which does not allow other ca3 images to overlap.

I don't know what you exactly mean. I followed the "CA3 Symbol Creation Guide" and transferred the descriptions to GIMP. Beware, you have to export your new PNG, don't just save in GIMP.

Yeah, you need to take sure that the PNG has proper alpha transparency.

This means that the Program don't know the symbol location. Have you first placed the symbol and than edited it? I made it the other way round.

Actually I don't remember. I think I used the standard paint program which aparantly does not work. I have recently down loaded GIMP which I'm still trying to figure out but I don't see a feature with GIMP to save as a PNG am I missing something?
