fill style locations

Hey everyone. As I mentioned before, I'm pretty new to CC3, and I'm having a hard time figuring out where to find the bitmap fills that I've seen on different maps. Is there a 'trail' that I can follow to find them? Are they spread out everywhere like the different symbols? Are they things people have made, and we can download (free or purchased) somewhere?

The one particular one I remember specifically was in the Live Mapping that Ralf did a couple weeks ago, where he showed us how to zoom into a section of your map. He did something with some farmland fills to make them look better (increased the size I think). Anyhow, those type of fills is what I'm looking for, but I'm not sure where I should be looking.

Thanks for any and all suggestions and pointers.

    Hi Brian :)

There's no catalogue of fills, as such, but they are usually named in a fairly standard way. For example if you go to the C:\ProgramData\Profantasy\CC3Plus\Bitmaps\Tiles folder and put "Farmland" in the File Explorer search bar, you will discover all the fills called Farmland from all the styles you have installed.

Can you link to the video where you saw this fill being used? Many of us can identify styles from the fills and may be able to help you locate it that way.

There are lots of free third party assets available. This is a useful thread to explore:

  • I'll check out the symbols and artwork thread you listed. I have been going through the resource part of the forums too.

So here is the first part in the video that I saw the farmland stuff. Ralf is looking at remaking a section of his terrain that keeps remembering the nodes he wants to not have, so he decided it would be easier to recreate the section. The terrain he's working on isn't the farmland, but it shows up in his menu so you can see it. I can see that he is working with the overland Mike Schley style, but when I try to switch to that in my map, it doesn't give me the same farmland style. I can't figure out where the fill actually might be.

It should start at 24:19 or so:

    Ah, I see.

If you open the drawing tools like Ralf did there you can pick the farmland drawing tool instead of the one that Ralf was using, and it will draw farmland for you.

I think there is only one kind of Farmland in Mike Schley overland. Are you making a map from mixed mapping styles? If you are, then that would explain why you don't have the same farmland fill.

  • Oh I probably am. I don't even recall the style I started in. I just dig for things I like, but honestly I haven't really done anything yet, because I got stuck at, how do I get the fill styles in. Any suggestions on where I look for things like that? I don't mind going through the ubermanual, but I'm really not sure what I'm looking for.

You should be able to import the one you want by creating a new and temporary Mike Schley overland map, and then importing that dummy map into your own map - pressing the ESC key just before you actually paste it.

That will cause any missing Mike Schley fills to be imported, even though you never actually pasted the dummy map.

Doing it that way will also automatically scale the fill correctly for you.

Once you have imported the fills you can switch to the "Overland Mike Schley" drawing tools in the dropbox at the top of the drawing tool dialog and grab the correct drawing tool for the farmland.

EDIT: although looking at the names in my drawing tool list there seems to be a bit of a mix up on my system at the moment. I'm sure yours will be fine.

  • Thanks Sue! That absolutely did the trick. I looked up importing in the manual, and everything is exactly what I need. And I have a newish (to me) technique. You rock!
