Community Atlas submissions question

I have a couple of questions relating to submitting maps to the Community Atlas -- not for the 1000th map contest, but just submissions in general. I know that new submissions aren't being processed until the end of the thousandth map content, but I'm just trying to get my ducks in a row to be ready come October 1st. (I suspect Remy may want to take a break after processing all of the contest maps, so not trying to rush anyone, just trying to be organized.) This question is probably for @Monsen but there are probably other experienced Atlas mappers who can help.

Multilevel Dungeons - One of the maps (or a bunch of them, depending how you define it) is a dungeon map with multiple stories, each with a separate FCW file. It was created using the multilevel function at the time I created the first map, so it has the multilevel navigation links automatically included. Is it okay to keep those links? Also, should I add hyperlinks on the stairs? For example, on the first level, should I add a hyperlink to the second-story FCW file on the stairs going up, and a hyperlink to the Basement 1 FCW map on the stairs going down? Or should I instead be noting that for Remy?

Claiming Detail Area Maps in Map Submissions - If I am submitting a map and already have plans (or completed maps) for components within the main map, should I note that somehow when I make the submission? As noted in this thread, I am working on a 1000 x 1000 mile map of the west coast of Doriant. By the time October 1st rolls around, I would also like to have fleshed out at least one smaller ~300 x 300 mile section of that map, plus a few cities within that section, plus a building in one of those cities. Should I mark that at the time I submit those maps? And if so, should I do that within the FCW file itself (like drawing a rectangle polygon around the area), or on a separate JPG export?

And if there's anything I can do in advance to make the process easier for multiple submissions, please let me know. (For example, with the regional, subregion, city, and building submissions, should each one be submitted in a separate thread, or would it be easier for you if they were all in the same thread?)

Thank you!

It was created using the multilevel function at the time I created the first map, so it has the multilevel navigation links automatically included. Is it okay to keep those links?

I would prefer if they were removed, since the atlas has it's own navigation toolbar. There is also the issue of file names in those links. I often need to rename atlas maps (most of the time because the file name doesn't match the actual name on the map), and when I do that I end up with a bunch of wrong links. So I'd prefer the entire navbox and links being removed from maps.

Also, should I add hyperlinks on the stairs?

For the same reasons as above with the file names, it is best to leave out links.

If I am submitting a map and already have plans (or completed maps) for components within the main map, should I note that somehow when I make the submission?

If you have multiple maps ready, just submit them all at once, preferably in one thread. If not, just tell me what areas you are working on and I'll set them reserved for you.

  • Thank you, this is helpful. I should have a bunch to submit within the next few weeks or so.
