Trace option missing from Polygon in Overland maps

I caught a bit of the live stream today and the trace command for ploys was used. I then checked the manual to make sure that you can use it for overland maps and it say it is supposed to be there. However, I do not get the trace option when using polys.

If I use smooth poly, it only lists the option for corner (c). If I use fractal, it only gives option to change the intesity. I went ahead and tried T (trace) with both and it did not work. So, how do I get the trace option back?

The basic tools (from the right hand buttons) doesn't support advanced features like trace. This is available when using drawing tools (All Map Drawing Tools)

  • OK. Two questions:

    1. One of the options is a cut polygon. What is the cut there? I am just wonder if that would work.
    2. Can I just create a new tool using the advanced options in the all drawing tools and that that work? I am wanting the polygon filled, so I would just set it up with the fill option and make a tool to use.

    1. Not following you here. Where did you find a cut polygon option?
    2. Yes, creating your own tool will work fine. Just remember a tool will belong to the current style, the tool won't automatically be available in other map styles unless you manually load the tools from another style.

  • That's fine. I really just need the tool for this map so I will go that route. It should make some things look better.

As for the cut polygon, it is listed when I click the all drawing tools for the Herwin Hielink style.

Ah, I see. It is just the name of a tool from that style. I don't really know the purpose of it, but it is just drawing a regular polygon. Mayby it is intended for drawing polygons that you can later use a cut operation against, but there isn't anything cutting or cutted in the tool itself.

  • I created a tool and used the trace command on the coast. The problem I am having is that it wants to go all the way around the continent. Once i was able to limit it to the small section I wanted. Is there a way to keep the trace tool from assuming I want to trace the entire continent?

It means you have selected the entity to trace at the wrong point. The trace will always go through the point on the entity where you selected it.

(Note that it might go the wrong way around untill you have moved the mouse enough from your starting point to pass the selection point)
