How big can a map be before the hex grid does not work?

Hello. I am trying to make a map on a 24000 x 12000 sheet, Earth size. When I try to add a Hex Grid at 5.0, the program crashes. Is there a size limit when using the Hex Grid?

A previous map I started was 4000 x 2000 and the Hex Grid worked on that one. But my Hex's were 20 wide, very vague.
