That's a known problem with Logitech mice. They use crappy switches. I actually use Logitech myself because of a range of other advantages, like the great power play charging system, no other manufacturer have anything else coming close. But I also end up replacing the thing regularly because of the crappy switches, experiencing the exact same things you describe, even in the more expensive models.
But most other makers have their issues too. The one I had before my logitech streak was a Razer, and it actually came with replacement switches, but of course, not for the switch that actually did wear out, my wheel button. And the one before that came with a battery that started to grow out of it's compartment. All good mice as far as operating them and functionality goes, they just don't last.
I´d suggest you to buy a mouse with an optical switch instead of mechanical switch, the chances of double click are close to non existant and it last longer, they´re intended to last 70 millons of clicks instead of the 50 millons of the mechanical ones (or less; Logitech 502 is rated for 20 millions only). They´re specially better when we talk about gaming, as its response is faster than mechanical switches and they dont do bouncebacks.
There is a problem with Win 10, if you do not have a mouse that is win 10 compliant it will double click. I had a nice Logitech mouse that I really liked, then Win 10, I ended up buying a new mouse, solved all of the problems, except that it does not work as well as the old one did before win 10. :(
"whatpulse" is an app for Windows/Mac/Linux that tracks mouse, key, and network usage stats - separated by time and which applications are being clicked/typed in.
I'm hesitant to let any 3rd party have what is basically a keylogger on my PC in general though, even if it's probably no worse than other applications in terms of privacy.

70 million clicks? I think I do more than that in one mapping session... at least it feels like it.
Wouldn't it be interesting to have a 'click counter' app for the mouse so we could see how many were actually involved in making a map.

Yeah not sure I'd want that. The keylogger thing i mean.
I usually go for Logitech mouse because they offer a good mix of quality and value for money without being too expensive.
The Amazon Basics one I have is still good...
