Just wondering when we'd hear more about this upcoming enhancement.
  1.
    I am also curious =)
  2.
I'll post an update in the New Year, when I can be less uncertain about the release schedule.

What is CC3+? Is it an expansion pack? Or a new revamped model of CC3?

Hm. Found a brief mention in this blog entry and in the comments for it. Still not a lot of info though. Looks like Simon is getting ready to release more info soon.

I was just looking for info on upcoming updates to Campaign Cartographer.
  3.
Over 5 months since the last inkling of this - My eyes suffering badly looking at the tiny icons on (2) 1600x1200 screens. How about an icon upgrade on its own? :-)

We'll get something up by the end next week.

That is fine, but could you give us an idea what you are exactly working on? I'm just curious what kind of improvements we can expect whenever CC3+ is finished.

Any news about this? Information has been very vague so far (and not that useful for those of us with old clunky monitors who don't need big, beautiful new icons).

Ok Simon, its now 11 days later, where is the news.
Just feed us a morsel :-)
  8.
Seriously though, its now a couple of hundred days later (yes, that's nearly Christmas 2013) and still nothing of this 'news'.
People, some kind of update, even if more obfuscating? (as in +extremely+ long way off...') could it be possible to tie it down to a margin of, say, a particular year? 2014, 2015, 2065 ( I'll be 108!*), 'this century*' or 3018** 'nuf sed.

    *Suspect dead :-(
**most likely same as * unless Dr Sheldon Cooper actually comes up with some kind of Cybernetic Memory download thingamy that I could afford...

I've given up any hope of hearing a word about this. I'd rather have not known anything rather than a tease of an announcement and then silence and not addressing it. Really poor marketing and PR. Some RPG companies do this frequently and it really irks me.

I gladly wait for the announcement of CC3+.
  9.
Oh, I am sorry. Circumstances beyond our control led to a delay, and I apologize for not following up on this thread.

Suffice to say that development is in its final stages, and we've employed Joe Slayton (Fractal Terrains) to finalise the code. The soon-to-be-released Character Artist 3 will include upgrade protection for CC3 Plus for a limited time - that is, if you get Character Artist 3, you'll get CC3 Plus when it is released at no extra charge while the offer lasts.

CC3 Plus will definitely be out next year, and I hope before April.

As for CC3 Plus features - in short:

Speed: CC3 Plus runs twice as fast as CC3. In most cases you can work with effects on.

Style: Award-winning cartographer Mike Schley provides you with a complete new attractive map-making style.

Effects: You asked for PhotoShop-style effects, now you have them. With faster, better, streamlined and consistent effects filters your maps will look better than ever before. You can test your effects on the drawing before applying them. You also get higher resolution export with anti-aliasing.

Ease: A context-sensitive floating cursor lets you know what CC3 Plus expects. The Print Wizard makes it easy to export your maps at any scale, tiled across paper. CC3 Plus also gives you better and cleverer editing, clearer icons, and you can drag and drop images from the internet.

Integration: CC3 Plus puts roads, rivers, symbols and other map-making tools up front and center in the Symbols Catalog window right where you need them. Whatever map making style you choose, the tools you need will appear, visually, and ready to go.

Consistency: We’ve fixed bugs, plugged holes and cleaned up the interface. CC3 Plus is Windows 8 ready, and it’s cleaner on the inside and outside.
  10.
Now, that's something! I'm really getting excited here. Consistency and Ease are two sections I wouldn't have expected to see on this list. Depending on the offer I might even get Character Artist now.

In an earlier post, the release was indicated as 'pre-April'. However, my Character Artist 3 email indicated January. Not to look the gift horse, or software, in the mouth but that seems almost too good to be true.

Personally, I never get anxious for software releases. The more time developers have, the more testing they can do and the more goodies they can add. : )
  14.
Yeah, I got the same email this morning saying CA3's been released (which I may get further down the line, but not now), noting that CC3+ is considered a "newer version" of CC3 (and thus covered by the 3-month "Upgrade Guarantee" window for free upgrade). Now, I purchased CC3 (and a few addons) about... 36-ish hours ago (on Dec. 17, putting my 3-month window at about March 17), So I have two questions:

    1) Do we have a more specific release date estimate than just a month?
    2) How much would an upgrade from CC3 to CC3+ cost, before any guarantee discounts? (e.g. if you were to release it in April, how much would it be before the 60% discount?)

The CA3 offer is this. If you have CC3 and you get CA3, you are guaranteed a free upgrade to CC3+ when it is released, whenever that is. This offer expires on 1st January 2014.
The CA3+upgrade offer ends 1st January - but CC3+ will not be released in January. I am making no guarantees about when it will be released. I hope, before April.

We are certain it will be released in 2014, and I hope before April, but that's all I can say. We have not yet decided on a price for the upgrade but I imagine it will be at least $20 pre-discount.
  16.
    Question/clarification:

    - Okay, I know if we buy Character Artist 3 ($40) we get CC3+ for free when it comes out. That's not what I am asking about.

    - If we do NOT buy Character Artist 3, but we DO own CC3, do we get any discount on upgrading to CC3+, or would it be the same cost for us as it would be for a brand new customer who has never bought Campaign Cartographer before?

    Thanks.

We ALWAYS do upgrade options for existing owners. I.e. yes, of course, there will be a reduced price upgrade option - probably in the $15 to $25 price range, though that's not decided yet.

CC3+ for new customers will replace CC3 and therefore will probably keep the price tag of $44.95.

Thank you for the clarification Simon and Ralf. :) What you posted here seems a bit more reasonable given normal software trials and tribulations.

I look forward to CC3+, it seems pretty awesome.

Sweet Luna on a tricycle! This is AWESOME news! XD

While I have continued to use CC3 for multiple projects (and recently just got someone I know who was interested in trying his hand at mapping for his fictional country to pick it up, as well) and still love the program, I've been frustrated by the issue with exporting images from maps at high resolutions and/or with anti-aliasing in use (the "issue" being that it basically can't be done).

I couldn't help but notice a particular item in that list of features that Simon posted: "You also get higher resolution export with anti-aliasing."

So it looks like, among MANY other enhancements, CC3+ will specifically fix the single most problematic issue I was having with CC3. On top of that, we may have our hands on it as soon as early-to-mid 2014, AND we're going to get some kind of discount on it if we already own CC3?

I am officially HYPED. Can't wait!

Out of curiosity, will there be a function to let us duplicate a sheet or create a new sheet based on an existing one? I'm not particularly interested in copying the entities on the sheet along with the sheet itself so much as I'm interested in copying all the effects and their sheet-specific parameters.

Copying effects from sheet to sheet is on the wish list, but I don't know if it will make it into the first release.

Are you expecting improvements to rendering in CC3+ to have any effect on the "banding" problem that you currently get when rendering a map that uses the DD3 Lighting Effects?
