  • Character Artist custom symbol catalog question

Simplest is probably just to copy over the ones from the existing symbol catalogs. If you make sure to have snap on both when picking the origin point for the copy, as well as when you paste it into the destination, it is easy to place it in the precise correct location.

  • Catalogue symbols are all red crosses

Basically, this means that CC3+ cannot find the image files used in the catalogs. The catalogs contains references to image files on disk, and a typical problem when you move computers is that you didn't put these image files in the same location on the new computer as the old one.

If you made the symbol catalogs using relative paths, it should be enough that the location inside the CC3+ data directory is the same as on the old computer, even if the directory itself is in a different location, but if you used absolute paths in the catalog, the path to the images must be exactly the same as before.

I wrote a blog article about it here. I talk about maps there, but the exact same applies to symbol catalogs (there's no technical difference between symbol catalogs and maps)

Let us know if this helps you figure it out, or you need more help.

  • PDF documentation

Documentation pdf's are stored in the Documentation subfolder of your CC3+ data directory, whereever you have placed it.

The lack of buttons for SS1&2 is normal. Those buttons triggers the appropriate menus for the various add-ons, but SS1/2 don't have their own menus, they just use the overland and dungeon menus respectively.

There aren't much documentation for SS1/2 though, since they are basically just new styles and symbols that otherwise behave the same way as the standard overland/dungeon stuff. Once you start a new SS1/2 map from the new map wizard, you have access to all the relevant symbols and tools belonging to those styles in the same way as a standard overland/dungeon map.

  • What does this mean

It sometimes happens that the update installs a .dll file you're not supposed to have. Basically, CC3+ thinks you have Perspectives3 installed, but can't find the required settings files for it.

You should be able to fix it by deleting the cc2per.dll file found in your CC3+ installation directory (c:\program files (x86)\ProFantasy\CC3Plus).

  • More Symbols Like SS6 (Isometric Cities)

Individual images makes life much easier. It is also very helpful if the images have good (but not too long) descriptive file names, and for larger collections, organizing the images into different folders (based on the content of the images, not Metadata like file size or resolution) also helps a lot.

Software like CC3+ (and our competitors) all use the concept of symbols that can be placed, and doesn't have image editor features that allows part of an image to be copied and placed, which is why such combined symbol sheets works poorly. Users need to use an image editor to first extract each symbol and save to a separate file, and then insert that.
