  • Mountains without shadows

From a standard CC3+ installation, the Mike Schley Overland, Jon Roberts Overland and Herwin Wielink sets all contain mountains without shadows.

    Seems to be back now.

I think that's reasonably efficient. Took 40 minutes from the time the power disappeared and until the power company had sent people to the location, found whatever problem it was, and fixed it, and that's at 1am in the morning. Way short of the 3 hours they predicted. I am generally quite happy with the power stability here, things like this usually only happens once every 5 years or so, and it is always quickly fixed.

Their notification system is quite efficient too, the power outage map on their website appears to be nearly real time. It is the first thing I check when power goes out, and it was fully updated when I checked just a minute after the power went out, no way a human would have had the time to update it. Email and SMS notifications dropped into my inbox immediately after that.

  • How do I Remove Background Color Preset?

That's a "Whole Drawing" effect. You can switch to those using the radio buttons right above the effects list in the sheets and effects dialog.

  • Server Move

We will be moving the forum to a new server. This is expected to happen around noon CET on Monday 21.06.2021

There won't be any actual downtime but due to the fact that DNS changes takes time to propagate over the internet, there will be a transitional period for a few hours where some people will still be going to the old forum even if the new is operational. Anything you post in the old forum during that period will not make it over to the new one, since that will be after data has been transferred. Once I switch over I will put up a banner on the old forum notifying you about this, so untill you see such a banner you can post as normal and be confident that your posts will make it over to the new server.

There won't be any major changes to the forum. This is just a server move, not a forum update. You will notice one change, and that is that I have gotten social logins set up. That means that if you prefer, you can now log into the forum using your google, facebook or twitter account. If you don't already have a forum account, one will be created and linked to the social login, and if you already have a forum account, the server will ask you for your current password to link the social login to your current forum account (your email address is used as the key, so if your social account have a different email than your forum account it will result in a new account instead of linking to your existing one). Note that if you do use social logins, your forum account will have its username set to the name on the social account, this applies to both new accounts and existing ones.

  • Using forest terrain with other symbols present. (CC3+)

Not directly. I recommend drawing around the settlements with the tool, then placing individual trees after that along the edges to give a tighter fit (And finish off with a sort symbols in map to arrange them properly.)

There is also the exclusion commands, this allows you to specify areas to exclude, but this only work with polygons, not symbols.

  • Understanding impact of changes and related saves

    1. Generally don't overwrite things, make a copy and edit it instead.
    2. There are a lot of things you can change from within the program that you could make a backup off, such as Symbol Catalogs (.fsc files, live in the @Symbols directory), Drawing Tools (.dto files, lives in @System\drawtools), templates (*fct, @Templates), symbol catalog settings (.sis, @System\Symbol Catalog Settings), Symbol Catalog Master Filters (.sif, @System\Symbol Catalog Master Filters)
    3. No. There isn't a way to reset other than reinstall or restore from backup.

Note that the files you are most likely to change (accidentally) are drawing tools. Symbol Catalogs can only be changed by loading the symbol catalog as a drawing (instead of into the symbol catalog window) something most people don't do and pretty much guaranteed wil never happen accidentally. Same with templates, you need to load these as a drawing to change them, changes in a drawing never change the template it is based on. Symbol catalog Settings are also somewhat easy to accidentally modify, if you click advanced in the select symbol catalog window.

Things that only affect the current drawing are changes to fill styles via the Fill style dialog, as well as editing symbols via the symbol manager. The latter only edits the copy of the symbol in the drawing, and not the global symbol catalog.
