  • Scale and exporting from Fractal Terrians

The map exported from FT3 should be in the correct scale already.

The scale bar may be wrong, that's a known bug. Try to measure the actual distance with the Info -> Distance tool.

Also note that map projection can also affect scale. FT3 exports the map using the current map projection. Depending on the projection, areas nearer to the poles may be distorted/enlarged (like Greenland in the real world). If this is the issue, try using another projection in FT3 when you export.

I assume you refer to the image gallery here on the forums?

If so, the answer is no unfortunately. The image gallery plugin that is in use here doesn't support sub-albums or non-image files (you already have the ability to create multiple albums). And there aren't any real alternatives to this plugin either.

Your maps are nice, but I notice several of your fills look horribly pixelated. This is either due to their scaling being really wrong for this map, or the resolution settings being wrong. You can check the resolution settings by going to :CC2RESMODE: and set them to manual - very high and see if that changes anything. If it doesn't, you'll need to edit the scaling for the fills, which you can find by clicking the fill style indicator in the top right, go to the bitmap files tab, select the correct fill, and severly reduce the values under 'scaled'.

Also, I would recommend replacing that old "striped" stone texture. That is an ancient legacy fill from the CC2 days, you should have better stone variants available.

Also, those castle walls will look nice with a small bevel applied to them, it helps enhance the 3-dimensional feeling of the wall.

  • Best way to accomplish "edge striping," but with a tile/bitmap fill?

Ouch, that looked worse than I would have expected.

Try using TRACED on it instead (Just type the command on the command line).

A positive offset makes it larger than the original. You can experiment a bit with the smoothing distance, but since the outline of this effect probably should be more smooth than the actual coastline, a value of 1-10 may be appropriate, depending on your map scale.

  • have you tried downloading and installing Vintyri 2.1 ? Don't ( Problem fixed.)

Mark have fixed this issue now. It was caused by an issue with the old installer version. He's built a new version, 2.2, which is now available for download from the same location as the old one.

There are no differences in the content between this new installer and the previous 2.1 from the site, so anyone running the current version don't need to go get the new one, the only difference is that the new version don't try to uninstall stuff if you upgrade from a previous version using it. If you have downloaded the 2.1 installer but haven't used it yet, then you should probably go get the new one instead, but again, this issue was only a problem if you already had an install of the CSUAC and tried to upgrade it, it was never an issue for new installs.

  • Grimdark Fantasy (renamed "Darklands") - development thread

Very few styles have matching overland/city/dungeon styles. The only ones that comes to mine is Jon Roberts (divided over several annuals with all of overland, city and dungeon) and Mike Schley, with the main set in CC3+ itself, and SS4/SS5 dedicated to dungeon and city. But it isn't the common approach. I guess partly because artists have their preferred environment, dungeon scale artist doesn't necessarily make city or overland map, and a lot of the styles from CC3+ is the artist adapting their existing style for CC3+.

That said, since a city, dungeon and overland style isn't linked together, there is nothing wrong for Sue to make an overland style for 2021, and a dungeon style for another year, like 2022. Both issues of spectrum had to go in the same year because just half of it would be a bit weird for the purchaser of only one of the annuals, but a city style is still fully usable even if you don't own the annual with the overland style. If there are any repeating files (like maybe some of the fills), they can easily go in both.

As for Sue's comment that it has to be a city style in between, I disagree. These are separate map types, and there are no reason all three have to be made. Nice, yes, but not required. Just look at the Mike Schley style. Overland was released with CC3+, SS4 Dungeons of Schley was released almost at the same time, while SS5 Cities of Schley was only released many years later.

  • Templates showing incorrectly

It may be a hidden file, make sure you show those. If that file is missing, there are no cache, which should make the thumbs show up fine, although it takes a bit longer to open the dialog

Wow, that's a great first map. I hope you stick around the forum and make more maps.

  • Questions about converting into a png file

Unfortunately, you can't make the background transparent, you'll have to do that in post-processing in another program. And if you plan to do that, your anti-alias should be off, since antialiasing is the sworn enemy of proper background removal. Also, antialiasing off will let the map export faster.

If you are going to convert it to a jpg anyway, you shouldn't worry about the file size of the png though, since that won't really matter in the end anyway. png's are always quite a bit larger than jpeg's.

Map notes only take 8000 characters, so longer text have to be broken down over multiple. Usually, I get a bit more than a page of text in each. I think Wyvern has the record with a 20-part map note.

Nah, I don't need a pdf file, I can easily make that from the .docx you sent.
