Issue with text disappearing along curved paths.
It is most likely on a sheet that is hidden by objects on another sheet.
Pretend to delete things in that general area, and you should see it again highlighted. Carefully right click to cancel the delete operation and pick change properties to move the newly revealed text to the right sheet. If it still vanishes, then the sheet it is on is in the wrong order in the Sheets and Effects dialog.

Issue with text disappearing along curved paths.
Well, at least it's working now :)
I find it is easier to make sure that the curve is on the TEXT sheet before I add the text, as sometimes it seems to me that if I have the curve on the wrong sheet that is the sheet the text ends up on.
It's the sheets rather than the layers that control the drawing order.

Any Oriental style symbol sets out there? (CC3+)
There may be cherry blossom trees in some of the free third party asset packs available - most likely Dundjinni or the CSUAC, which you can get to from the resources thread here:
And, depending on the scale, there are a couple of related Cartographer's Annual issues in the 2018 annual here. These are city scale styles, not dungeon scale, so the resolution is slightly less than half that of dungeon symbols. Although this can be balanced by the fact that most CC3 symbols have resolution ranges that vastly exceed those available in the free packs.
