That is a pumping station that can pump water out of the pond into the other two ponds. It also can pump water into the pond from a shallow well beneath the structure.
That already looks very beautiful, but I have this feeling about that nice patch of flat ground on the west bank of the river south of the city. Is that going to be more of the city, or some of the surrounding farming communities?
That is where the main port facility is. I have a post upstream that shows it before I took it out to conserve resources. It will eventually be added back in.
I have constructed a magnificent facility, but I have no idea what it is. The townsfolk in the area stand and stare with a puzzled look. The town fathers debate the issue. But still no answers.
Yes, HSL or AH/S (whichever acronym you prefer) is becoming one of my favorites. It adds more variation to the canvas and I can make subtle variations to the same type house.
As to the building, I was thinking it was a large housing unit when I started building it. I looks like it could be a barracks complex, or a warehouse. Maybe a hospital. I am totally undecided and open to suggestions. Maybe it is a prison. Oh I see you suggested that. It could be associated with the Royal Academy as their influence and interest are strong in this area. It does have the look of temple complex as you suggested, but I am incline to not go that direction with it.
I decided to make it a prison. The walled complex to the north side of the prison is a city watch garrison. The area below it is a small market area. The pale blue building is a tavern.
ah, I‘m too late, damn :-). My vote would have been for the royal academy. Now that you‘ve put it right next to barracks it could also be some kind of an intelligence service headquarters...
However, very nice building!
The Royal Academy is located by the teal colored temple. It is the large "C" shaped structure just to the south of the temple on the wide view posted up thread. The farmlands near the eastern wall are basically an extension of the Academy and serve as areas where the Academy can conduct research and validate its agricultural theories.
The City Watch garrison pictured here is home of one of the more notorious units of the City Watch. I will have to come up with an appropriate name for them. Any suggestions?
Sorry in advance, I know it is not appropriate what I have in mind, but the combination of notorious guards and a prison brought a song in my mind (‚you can check out every time you like, but you can never leave‘). But instead of Eagles you could name them carrion crows. :-)
Plus the present King is not the nicest of sorts. His wife has introduced the worship of the pagan sea god Merka. The temple on the hill to the west of the city has a fire that has burned continuously since the queen arrived. It is where they make their human sacrifices to Merka.
The complex brownish-orange structures south of the east gate are granaries. Just south of them, against the wall is another Town Watch barracks. Part of their responsibility is to guard the granaries. South of the barracks are stockyards and butchers. The Gray complex with the aquatic courtyard is a hospital. Between the hospital and the stockyard against the east wall is a street lined with cobbler's workshops. The greenish building along the wall adjacent to the hospital is an apothecary. The blue building on the west side of the hospital is an inn.
Latest update. Haven't worked much on the map lately. I have been taking a break and recharging my batteries, so to speak. I am mapping the terraces. [Image_11925]
The terrace districts are inhabited by the aristocracy. The enclosed, orange complex is a town watch compound. It houses a guard force that protects the terrace districts. Haven't settled on a name for this unit. Considering the "High Watch," but I am open to (and welcome) suggestions. The red structures is a wall and gate complex that controls access to the lower terrace. I am also open to names for the lower and upper terrace districts.
The circular complex surrounds an access point to an underground cistern that collects runoff from the hill above. Multiple collection points supply water to the cistern through a network of underground channels. The access point is the blue building (which is from Sue's Asian symbols). The circular complex was inspired by a similar one in Lucca, Italy.
Always learning new things. I used shaded polygons to create the outer shed type additions on the circular complex. I picked up the technique from Dogtag's excellent tutorial.

Its not worrying me so much these days.

I see you are putting the HSL effects to good use again. I barely recognised the blue fantasy roof pattern there
