Community Atlas 500th map and 4 year anniversary competition with prizes.
The contest is now over. You can see the winners here.
The community atlas is very close to 500 maps, as well as reaching it's four year anniversary in February, and that deserves a mapping competition.
All skill levels
As always, this competition is open to all skill levels. Please don't think you have to be a master mapper to compete. A competition is a great way of testing yourself and have some fun.
Set in the Atlas - No contribution required
As always, the competition is set in the community atlas, but the competition is open for anyone, even if they do not want to contribute to the atlas. Of course, I hope as many as possible will contribute, and if you wish to contribute, you have to provide me with the .fcw file. I assume everyone who posts their .fcw file here will contribute, if you don't want to contribute, simply don't provide the .fcw file. Note that to be part of the 500th atlas map draw, you have contribute your map since this prize is for an actual atlas map, but you are eligible for the other prices.
Do the map you have time for
I know people are busy, but keep in mind that competitions, especially with prizes, doesn't come around all the time. If you do have time to do your very best for the competition, that's great, but if you are short on time, consider doing either a smaller or simpler map.
Remember, competitions are held because people participate, without participants, there won't be competitions either. Not trying to guilt trip anyone into participating, if you truly don't have the time, that's completely fine, but I am hoping people can try to find the time to at least do something small and simple rather than pass over the competition completely.
The Competition - Ice and/or Fire Dungeon
The theme of this contest is Ice and/or fire dungeons. I'll leave it up to you to determine exactly what that means for your map, but the idea is to implement this as a general theme. It doesn't have to be a dungeon made entirely of ice or anything like that, maybe it is one of the challenges in the dungeon that is ice-based.
It is up to you if you want to base it on ice (in the spirit of the current season), on fire (if you don't like the current season) or on both. I'll leave it to your imagination.
Your dungeon can either be a single level of our mega-dungeon from a previous competition or a stand-alone dungeon. If you map a level from the mega dungeon, remember it has to be traversable from top to bottom, so a level should have exactly one entrance (coming in from above) and one exit (going down to the next level) and your level should allow travel between these two exits without tearing the dungeon apart.
If you go for the stand-alone dungeon, you have to go to the atlas and identify a place to put your dungeon, such as an ice cave on ezrute or a volcanic cave on Nga-Whenuatoto. If you plan on contributing your map to the atlas, I recommend that you request that location be reserved to you in the main atlas thread to avoid two people mapping the same location, but since this is a dungeon, they are relatively easy to move somewhere else so it is not the end of the world.
Remember, if you are short on time, do a small mini-dungeon. Not all dungeons have to be these huge things.
Allowed Resources
To keep this fair to everyone, the allowed resources are the same as for any atlas map. In simple words, that means any official CC3+ add-on from ProFantasy (including the mini add-ons downloadable from the registration page such as Shessar's Fireplaces and Scott's Celtic Buildings), the big four community add-ons (Bogie's Mapping Objects, Vintyri Cartographic Collection, CSUAC 2 and the Dundjinni Archives).
No resources outside these, no custom symbols (includes modifications to official symbols) or fills.
The maps have to be made in CC3+ only, no pre/post production in an image editor or similar.
Prizes
The prizes will be vouchers for ProFantasy products. Remember, if you already have all the products, these make excellent gifts to friends who could use CC3+ or just save them for the next product.
Best map: $50 voucher
2nd place: $25 voucher
3rd place: $25 voucher
500th atlas map: $50 voucher
Best map and runners up will be determined by community vote.
500th atlas map will be randomly drawn between the submitted maps, so the order they are submitted to me does not matter. You have to submit your .fcw file for inclusion in the atlas to be eligible for this one.
While you can submit multiple maps to the competition, each individual will only be eligible for one prize.
Thanks to ProFantasy for sponsoring the prizes.
Entering the Competition
Please indicate that you want to enter the competition by posting below.
You complete your entry you then post the image of your final map in this thread when it is done. Feel free to also post a high resolution version in your personal gallery on the forum.
To contribute your final map to the atlas, you must also attach your .fcw file for the map along with the map image. This is required to participate in the 500th map draw.
Time
The competition ends March 1st, 12:00 UTC
WIP Thread
Please consider starting a WIP thread in the forum showing your progress. You can post a link to your WIP thread in this thread. Please do not use this thread as a WIP thread though, it is reserved for competition discussion and posting of the final result.

Count me in. At least there is a decent amount of time. Mine will be a dungeon under the Abbey Crypt (yet to be completed) in Runcibor, Ezrute. And as an Aussie, well and truly into our fire season, mine will feature fires of hell ?
That is plenty of time, but I'll see if I have that much time.
@Monsen Hi Remy,
I'd like to have a go at a dungeon in the Kabattah Ruins from Lorelei's, Shifting Sands Map on Alarius.
I'm pretty sure I will have time to do something, even though it might be only rather small. I think I'm heading for an ice cavern, but I've no idea where to pick. Any suggestions? Do we have any permanent ice on the planet?
Northern Alarius, and Southern Ezrute and Peredur. I have done a rather subarctic island in the north of Alarius if you are interested.
Sounds like an amazing competition. However I were rarely map dungeons in CC3 - is it only possible to enter with a dungeon, and not a overland map or a city map? :)
My first challenge, count me in. I have a few concepts already in mind I'd like to test.

Great. I've reserved that place for you.

Nothing but dungeons/caves for this one. See it is as a challenge. Fun thing about competitions is often the opportunity to do something different.
Oh go on @Quenten - pick me a suitable place. It's only going to be a relatively small grotto type place, but there may be some interesting lights.
I have an idea for a map, but work has been getting increasingly busy. I will absolutely put one up if I can find the time!
Here are 3 spots on Ezrute continent - others might also find these useful if they want to do an ice grotto, cavern, pit of doom etc
I would like to participate/contribute. I’ll dig through the atlas over the weekend and see where light be a good place.
Any advice for navigating the atlas or picking a spot to build?
If you're looking for something in particular, the atlas is fully searchable, although there are no search option for interesting locations though.
To pick a spot, find some feature on any map that looks like it could hold a dungeon. Could be a cave, or a ruin, or a building (both on the overland map or a city map)), or perhaps there are some stairs or holes in another dungeon out there that may lead to yours?
And note that the mega-dungeon always could use new levels. It is already a crazy place with levels completely different from each other, making it a good place for anyone just wanting to make a dungeon level without looking for a specific location in the atlas (Just remember that mega-dungeon levels should have exactly one entrance from above and one exit going down so they can be linked in a long chain.)
I might go through various Atlas maps to highlight some interesting spots (along the lines I did for Sue's ice grotto - see above), if that is OK with you, Remy.
Sure Quenten, go ahead.
Thanks Quenten :)
Can I change my mind and decide to do part of the Kristol Springs instead? An outdoor battle map. The area looks like Yellowstone in size, so it would only be one of the many springs.
I mentioned this on the dragonsfoot forums as some folks there have cc3+.
@Loopysue That wouldn't really be a dungeon though....
@JimP Thanks!
Well in that case I guess any of the other 3 will do.
I will make the map and see what you all think about which one it should be.
You're welcome.
Sue...that's exactly what that site was meant to be. If you ever have the time, or inclination, i'd still love to see what you'd do with my "frozen yellowstone" as i thought of it when making the map :) I'd love to participate in this challenge, but i've just got a new rig and am busy redownloading everything, including my thousands and thousands of assets i've acquired over the years working with this program. I am devastated i've lost the beta CSAUC files, as a few of those didn't make it into the release and i've a few red xs on maps i cannot fix. But...the new system is super FAST, so i should be up and running soon. Can't wait to see what everyone does. Incidentally, this contest is super conveniently timed - my players are actually just making their way to Skorra (i've transplanted many of my atlas contributions into my own homebrew world) at tonight's session
Ok Lorelei. I'm just a little bit tied up with a GB of ribbons, scrolls and seals right now, but I will see what I can do ;)
Hi. I've been tinkering a bit with some things for the Challenge, but before I start doing real work I'd like to ask @Monsen for a few clarifications, as I have never worked under the Atlas' rules before:
Thanks, Monsen
I'm not that much of a dungeonmapper, but I'll try to make one.
It's a great way to get me away from my usual WW2 or postapocalyptic overland maps - testing and learning something new is always fun. Cool!
Greetings,
I would like to map a dungeon in Mt Vadulim in Kal Karadol ,Artemisia
This is the first time I post here, but I see so much potential.
Great. Go for it.
Remy, I am not sure what you mean by the tokens. Can I use the Tokens from the Tone Treasury. What do you mean by "anyone downloading just the png file from the atlas would have a image file with immovable tokens" Isn't everything on a png immovable?
I think the point is a token on a map is usually something that can be moved, because many people will be familiar with their use in online RPGs, for instance. It's not quite the same as one of the monster or character top-down miniatures in some of the DD3 symbol sets, which are complete items, the same as, say, a piece of furniture. The Token Treasury items don't look like they "belong" on a map in the same way. Personally, I think the TT items can look good as mapside or border decorations, by preference, though I could see some might also be usable as floor decoration, probably with a suitable Effect applied.
