Too tired to read them all - But I'll pile onto VTT ready features (I used Fantasy Grounds).
I would also like the option to save out with transparent background. For white (or selected color) areas. That helps with maps I might put into a VTT with layers I would want to turn on/off in the VTT.
Yes -- or allowing things to have multiple layers (so, for example, a symbol for a particular building on a city map may be on one layer for the type of building and another for its neighborhood).
I do tend to use layers mostly to be able to hide/unhide groups of things together. For example, in my dwarven mines, the mountaintop and all of the terrain and rock symbols associated with it were on one layer so I could cut off the top of the mountain to peer inside the mine with just hiding one layer. Or for a secret treasure chamber, the walls, floors, and symbols may all be on the GAME MASTER ONLY layer to hide or reveal all of them at once. Occasionally I'm faced with the choice of wanting it to be on multiple layers. I suppose that could get confusing, though, if one of those layers is hidden and the other is not.
(At this point, I suspect this thread may morph into a CC4-Plus thread.)
Well always happy to see this discussion re-emerge. Seeing that I didn't reply the first time this was active I'll do so now :)
Most important to me: export to uvtt format with line of sight elements based on wall, door and window features/symbols, including lights from Dungeon Designer. Addition of being able to export symbol boundaries as Terrain type LOS based upon symbol type (i.e. trees yes, rugs no) or perhaps sheet or layer. LOS nodes should be minimized. Exact tracing is not desired. (I can provide detailed examples of this if desired) (I would totally pay for this in CC3+)
64 bit
Auto join lines if properties are the same, to prevent abutting lines having poor endpoints
export at set resolutions per unit. i.e. so I can export at 100 pixels per 5 foot square and similar so I don't have to do my own macro.
Layer and sheet display "sets" that can be saved and recalled. So I can save a "set" that is a GM version of the map, or a player version, etc.
Sheet Effects Presets option to save within the FCW file so that they are more easy to use with the above layer and sheet sets. (But don't get rid of the application wide presets)
Better very large and high resolution image export. i.e. easier ability to print high resolution poster size (or larger) maps.
Procedural map generation. Taking CC city creation automation to the next level. But for dungeons, overland, and cosmographer.
Cosmographer enhancements to be able to do solar system detailing such as what programs like starsy.netlify.app does poorly.
Though I love the UI (and I'm a CAD user), I do think that to grow the user base you probably have to go to a more modern one. I personally would still prefer the current ui, but growing the user base is critical to keeping my favorite mapping program healthy. But, you also can not alienate your current users.
A new Select Color UI. It should have presets like the current, but be able to load saved color pallets and to have full RGB, CYMK and maybe pantone numbers. Also the support of an alpha channel/transparency (supported when exporting to correct file types). And these color pallets sets should be reflected in the left vertical color pick bar.
Color gradient fills
Dockable tool windows. I believe GIMP and other allow tools windows to be undocked from the main application window and moved around. Makes for multi screen support better
multi-threading for image exporting. multi-threading elsewhere if possible.
Fill Style Properties > Bitmap Files list of available fills need to be improved. All installed styles should be available someway with out creating a unique fill style in the map. Maybe like the Sheet Effects have available a list of all presets, And then the ability to add styles (individually and in group) from those sets to the current map.
I'd love to have a "hand" icon for panning around a map, rather than having to use the scroll bars and/or zooming out and then zooming back into a different area.
But what if you don't use a mouse? Or not one with a wheel? I use a Xencelabs drawing pad for my mouse, for instance. Or just the touch pad on my laptop when I'm working with it on my lap instead of on a desk). Having that tool would make it available regardless of what hardware you're using, right?
The majority of us use a mouse because it's actually easier than using a drawing tablet. I have a perfectly good large Intuos Pro, but I never use it with CC3 because mouse is better.
However, I get what you are saying since there are users who cannot use a mouse, though I am out of my depth regarding any kind of alternatives - not being a coder myself.
Thanks for those. I use my pad by preference, not necessity; I actually find it easier to use than a mouse or the touchpad. From what I can tell, the "hand" tool is fairly standard in graphics and publishing software - I know it's available in the Affinity suite (which I use), in Adobe software (which I don't use), and in many PDF viewing applications. A quick google search shows that it's available in "many" such applications.
It's a convenience and workflow thing for me. If it can't be, it can't, and I can certainly live without it; I was just putting it out there for the wish list.
After some time of absence I return here and find two things: CC4 is still not released, and this thread is still alive. Creating new maps after the long pause showed me that a lot of the old bugs in CC3+ are also still alive. Having spent some decades in software industry mainly as a project manager I come to think that no serious development activity is running. I'd like to have a statement from Profantasy management: is there really a plan to keep Campaign Cartographer alive? If yes, what is the intended release schedule?
Regarding the "feature wishlist" I'd recommend a look at the feature list of the numerous competitors that entered the market during the last couple of years.
Hey, wurzel - I don't work for ProFantasy in any way shape or form, so obviously I don't have any information about release schedules or included features.
But as a consumer I can tell you that I have absolute faith that they are actively developing CC4. First and foremost, because they've said they are and I trust this group of people - they have a tremendous track record of both integrity and customer support!
Also, Sue has posted examples of her progress on the included overland style for the new software, and I'm fairly certain that wouldn't be happening if at least the bones of the software weren't already finished up.

That's moving back and forth between monitors with different native dpi values?
Yea one is a 4k tv, the other is an older 1080P
There aren't any immediate plans to scale the symbol catalog or icons with change in dpi, but I will put that on the list of things to consider.

Working on my massive map.
Grouping LAYERS and SHEETS would be awesome.
This way you could tick a group and shut them off (or on) all at once.
I know some users get massive amounts of sheets and layers.

Some of those are pretty cool. Even gradient by transparency would be awesome.
Different UI themes would be pretty neat.
Not sure if it's been mentioned yet.

You can pan by holding down the mouse wheel and dragging.

Maybe these would be some help?

Customer support is off the charts here. Sue, Remy, Ralf, Slayton and a few others I forget, really really go above and beyond to help people.
