I saw your posts there and knew it was you. Like any VTT, FG supports dozens of different systems, and many of the videos for those systems, and many more for the general interface definitely do NOT need updating.
Folks responding to your questions were trying to figure out what system you were interested in, and/or what you were trying to do. There are probably at least 10x the number of users of FG as CC3+, and they get many of newbie questions everyday. It usually takes more than a few back and forth questions before the new person can even explain what they are trying to do.
I certainly didn't see any attitudes in the responses. It seemed like they were trying to set you up for a one on one discussion on Discord, in fact.
It does have a huge learning curve (but probably not as much as CC3 to be honest). It is not for everyone. :) I have been able to pick FG up by watching videos, whereas CC3 I still struggle a lot with doing what I would call simple things (and this is mainly due to the antiquated interface I think). Those that have been using CC3 for years it is second nature to them. This is also a little bit of what turns people off FG I think, i.e. the learning curve and the interface.
There are a few things that I did like about FG over the others when I was doing my reasearch were that I as the GM am the only one that needs to purchase a license (I bought the ultimate), and my friends never have to buy anything. That was one, but there ar a few others, that I cannot recall at the moment! :)
The books are unfortunately a pain in the backside as you have to buy them if you want to run the rules in game, although technically you could get away with things like just the SRD (for 5E), but think you have the same isues with other VTT's too. Again though you can share those for your players to use in game, so they literally do not need to buy a thing. I have and do as the GM.
This has quite a nice comparison and yes I realise is written by the FG academy, who are not owned or run by FG but community members, and a very active discord server (hint hint PF. ;)). They are quite objective however, so still quite a good comparison I think. They actually recommend another system for new players.
It's probably too late for you Jim, but Fantasy Grounds Academy (https://www.fantasygroundsacademy.com/) has nearly daily updates to various articles. There are also classes, sometimes specific to various game systems, many are generic enough to still be useful. I found the automation useful for getting more playing time in various games rather than all the time working through rules books. YMMV.
I looked at the Academy. Signing up for classes wouldn't work for me. I'm elderly and I really just need some text to read. The wiki is very out of date.
I also.play Everquest 2. The people there are much more helpful.
Fg forums listed several videos by number. Nothing like that on YouTube. I figured out to look at the first post out of many pages. And there they were, made in 2021 and 2022. I needed videos made with interface version 4.4. I found one. Just one.
Yes, made by volunteers. I help on these forums when I can. But I don't point people to resources years old.
No, you didn't need videos specifically for version 4.4.
This is quite apparent in what you chose as your list of qualifications for Epic Table.
Version 4.4 came out less than 2 months ago. You expect them to remake all the videos every time they update (which can be as often as every month)? - what fantasy world are you living in?
Edit: Let me clarify this. I've been a member of both communities for quite some time now, and have been an active user of both products for even longer.
There have been times in the past in the FG forums where I have had to step up and correct folks who made posts with inaccurate information about CC3+. Check it out, I have the same username there. There's a search function as well.
Calling out misstatements is not pestering.
Being old is not an excuse. The majority of us in this hobby are old.
Hi folks, please stop this discussion about Fantasy Grounds and personal reasons to dislike or like it. It's leading nowhere except to hurt feelings on one side or another. I'm closing this thread for this reason. Feel free to discuss the use of CC3+ maps in virtual tabletop in a new thread.

I think you gave up too early.

The Discord interface is for little kids. The attitudes on the fg forums and the cost of modules and books i already have decided me.
I'm not going to discuss fg further.
I have Epic Table. System agnostic. No need to load books and modules. Just maps. It has fog of war. Significantly easier to use. Much lower cost.
Don't let that stop you from discussing fg, just I'm not interested.
I use Shard Tabletop. It's geared around 5e and the interface is creator/homebrew friendly
.
Thanks for the permission.
I wasn't being sarcastic. Other forums, folks stop talking about things because I posted. I have no idea why.
Have never heard of Epic Table. Sounds interesting. It probably won't be for me, but will still take a look. :)
He has some up coming ideas i like, but his family did tell him they wanted him to spend more time with them.
He has videos on YouTube and a fb page.
$60 is a huge amount of money for the functionality available.

You make me more and more glad I left fg. No idea why you keep pestering me over a decision that only affects me.
Deception affects everyone.

Why won't you leave Jim alone? He asked politely.
