Drawing tool problem

Hello everyone, everything good?

I'm new to Campaign Cartographer and yesterday while I was making a map of a tavern, I started having the problem that I couldn't invert the asset of a door. The problem was that I wanted to invert the side of the doorknob and even when it was right on the mouse cursor, when I actually placed the door on the map it appeared wrong (different from the cursor). During numerous attempts to place the right door, the program crashed and closed by itself and now the floor color palette is like this for various types of floor (this for several styles).

Does anyone know how to fix? Will I have to reinstall everything again?

Thanks very much in advance.

  • As soon as I published this post I realized that it is in the wrong category, but I can't even delete it or change its category...

    Sorry

    Hi Mauricio :)

Don't worry about the category. I'm sure we can sort that out.

Please can you upload the FCW file? It shouldn't crash just because you want to add a door.

For the door, it sounds like you just were the "victim" of smart symbols and snapping. Smart symbols are intended to align symbols correctly to lines (like walls) and are mostly helpful, but there are situations where you don't want/need it as well. It also sounds like you may have snap on, but not cursor snap which can lead to some confusion because the snap doesn't happen until you click, instead of continuously.

So, right click the snap button in the lower right, and make sure both snap AND cursor snap is disabled (You usually don't want snap for placing doors, but you may want to turn it back on for other things, and then it is best to have both options ON). You should now be seeing the door snapping into place as you move the cursor. Which way it is oriented should be determined by which side of the line your cursor is on when placing it, so try subtly moving the cursor right across the centerline of the wall to turn it around (just a very tiny movement required).

If you cannot get it to behave, you can also turn off smart symbols by right clicking inside the map with the symbol on your cursor and just turn off the option called "smart tracking" which is what causes it to track lines.

For the fill style issue with the drawing tools, it looks like you have picked the wrong drawing tool style for that map type. That should normally be loaded automatically, but based on the fill I see in the screenshots, I think it should be set to "Dungeon DD3 color" and not "Dungeon SS2B". Is it right that you started this map using the DD3 Dungeon template"?

  • As today I tried to create the map again from scratch (to see if that fixed the problem with the styles), it overwrote the FCW file.

If it helps with something, follow the new one.

And the worst thing is that now the styles are buggy, I can't draw anything right because it comes out wrong...

  • Thanks for the snap tip.

Oh, I think you're right. I think I was using the wrong template.

I'm feeling stupid. Sorry, I don't really know the templates and how it works.

    Thank you very much.

Thanks for the file, Mauricio :)

I will have a look at it later, now that I think Remy (Monsen) has probably sorted everything out. Shout again if he hasn't.

  • I change filenames so I don't overwrite earlier map files.

I may have: filename01_001, and if that doesn't look correct to me, I start a new one filename02_001.

What is the 001 on the end ? I don't use auto save, I make a series of changes, then save as to filename01_002, do more work but not much, then save as filename01_003, etc. until done.

If I decide to go off on a tangent, I look over the ma files, and pick a version I feel i can branh off of, change the filename01 to filename02, and continue mapping.
