Fast Marshes Tutorial
The intention of this mini tutorial is how you can quickly make a marshe without using fill style (before starting the map) or default terrain, during the execution of your map. Initially I chose initial fill style plains as you can see in the first figure.
1 - Quickly place the mountains where you want them.
Comments
2 - draw your main river
3 - Click Change properties in the left corner of your screen. Select Main River, left mouse button and Do it. It opens a new screen and, in this river, I chose the size 1 (this map is out of scale and is for demonstration purposes only).
4 - Refresh and new Big river
5 - draw some secondary rivers, note that they are in their default size (river wide), if you are more precious, adapt each one to a different size. Certainly this greater work would have resulted in a more realistic effect.
6 - Create SYMBOLS TREES GRASS sheet, and place it above SYMBOLS BACK sheet. Select this sheet to work with and choose Scrub icon (grass).
VERIFY if CC3 keeps the SYMBOLS TREES GRASS sheet or if it simply switches - it happens a lot to me - to the SYMBOLS TREES Sheet. In case of change, Select SYMBOLS TREES GRASS again
7 - Spread the Scrub items next to each other where you want your swamp/marsh to be
8 - Refresh and watch your draw gaining form
Thanks for this Ricko - it is great.
9-now the little secret.
as the fill style of this drawing is not ocean, I can move Sheet Ocean below sheet Land (easier). In case you have Ocean as the base of your initial Fill Style, no problem, Create a SHEET SEA LAKE/MARSH/POOL etc and move that sheet below Sea (original) and LAND, and work on it.
Sometimes the same thing happens when CC3 switches to SEA normal instead of SEA LAKE, as in the previous example of SYMBOLS TREES.
10 - Draw your wetlands where you want them most
I don't see any difference between this map and the previous one, @Ricko Hasche
11 - Refresh
Note: Ocean usually comes with the Edge fade inner effect, if you have to create your Sea LAKE sheet, don't let the Edge fade inner effect be included in this new sheet. It gives it a much more realistic look.
12 - Added some random trees
13 - Add the interesting points (ruins, cave, village etc) and in 5 minutes your map is ready to game 🌹
this one is about marshes and wet areas mr quenten, how to give them a honest visual without using marsh fill style at begining or use marsh/swamp default terrain during the draw
This is same effect/technique ive used in elven Comune to make the rice fields on comunity atlas
Very neat
would be nice have some mosquitos icon XD
In this elven comune you can notice that the Inner fade effect is much more pronounced.
Another excellent bookmarked tutorial! Thanks.
time to share with us your creations @Bidmaron 🤜🤛
Wonderful work, Ricko - thank you :)
Well, give me a little bit. I'm trying to take in a lot of what I'm seeing here. The stuff I have is all from the 90's, and it just doesn't pass muster any more. Don't want to tip my hand on what I'm working because my job may interfere again, but hopefully not....
It has something to do with an XP add-on I'm designing....
Thanks again - I always learn something when I check out your posts!!!!!!
reading your tutorials be like:
Steps 1 - 6: ok, ok, pretty chill so far
Step 7: and then the doom music kicks in :D
By chance i was listenning https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d72j6GEgaJc during this tutorial :D <3
Printing to pdf.
@Ricko Hasche Thanks for the music video - it's great, and I've saved it.
🤣🤣 Sounds about right
