Just one small suggestion: you might think about outlining your river with a black line as well, then Mike Schley's symbols would merge even better with it...
when i added edge stripe image appears on back ground, so ive added some mountinas on Symbol Back sheet to hide those back lines from the hidden land.
not shure already what i like more in this example (i changed a little bit to make a test). i hidded the land behind the hils image, so only appears edge stripe effect (or not, then no need to place a hidden land)
on this is the another option, make a very thin land line, just to give some green.
Yes exactly: the river in the symbol has a (rather thick) black outline. My Idea was to try and match this outline as close as possible on your other rivers, so it would look like the river from the symbol is part of your own river. at least on first glance, I don't think one would ever get an exact match with this...
Personally I like it better without the edge striping.
The black outline Fersus is talking about is also on the waterfall, outlining the water against the land with a "black inking" - if you are able to match that outline in some way it may tie into the symbols better, but either way it looks great

@Ricko What a wonderful map. And thanks for the dedication - but I don't really feel that deserving. Love the mountain goat.
Wow ! It's incredible !
It would make an awesome album cover
your maps rocks Dak! thanks!

That's very nice! The use of different symbols sizes to create the effect of perspective is wonderful!
@Fersus idea is also, well, a very good idea!
its nice idea, but in this map i selected sea as first back ground to use at same time as sky and river.
Just added symbols and then a small portion of land on low border... i forgot to use edge stripes.
Cheers
I think @Fersus meant a black thin outer glow, rather than the edge stripe. But I like it! Expecially on the river it gives a good sense of movement!
