WIP Tropical Area on My World

I've started to map out an area along the equator on my main FT3 world. Just a lot of mountains so far. I made the mountains smaller to better give a sense of the size of the area, which is roughly 3500 X 1800 miles.

I like it so far, except for the lines outlining the shore - either do away with them, and replace by different shades of blue (I use Solid 10 laid upon each other) or limit them to 3 lines, not 6.
Looking forward to the next bit.
The lines do seem like a lot, but they come with the ancient realms package. Is there a way to alter them? Are they on a sheet or something?
You can vary the size and blur if you edit the effect. You can also choose an alternative bitmap pattern to use as the edging.
I like them. Maybe a little narrower, but they seem fine to me. It's as always a matter of taste.
I found the effect, edge striping. I've fiddled with it a bit, but not sure which way i like it. I think I'll wait till the map is done to decide.
Rivers and mountains pretty well done, though there are still some problems with rivers running through mountains and connecting to other bodies of water.
Upload without the edge striping for comparison.
I like it better with no edge striping. But you can also add sea contours as I mentioned above, which will look more realistic IMHO.
The edge striping makes an interesting feature on the map, but it is much too dominant - compare with the mountain sizes, for instance. I've not done much experimenting with this kind of striping, but I'd suggest reducing the number and visual strength/density if you decide to retain the effect.
I am planning for sea contours and the like based on the original FT3 rendering, but I was saving that till last.
That's a really good point about comparing it to the mountain sizes. I'm going to see how a reduced size looks, but will probably do that at the end.
Another update. I cleaned up the rivers and added hills.
I like the way you have done the hills - small symbols/fills. I may do this myself on future regional maps, as I find the Schley (and other styles) hill symbols to be too large viv-a-vis the mountains
Making good progress there :)
It may be just me, but I'm starting to find the rivers a bit large now the hills are there and barely visible in this image, but that may be down to the size of a glow effect more than the width of the river itself.
Yes I rather like these hills. They're in the Ancient Realms catalogue, in case you don't recognize them. This is my second map with that style, and somehow they escaped my notice in the first.
I'm in agreement about the rivers. I made them as small as I could without having the lines appear broken in the program. I'm learning though that sometimes things that appear broken in the program don't necessarily appear broken when you export a map, so I think I'll play around with their width and do exports to see if they show up. The rivers are currently 3 units wide, which is probably about a tenth of what they were before. All of the symbols have been taken down from the default of 3.5 to 1.0. So maybe I'll try that.
Certainly if anyone knows how to address this problem I'd love to hear (read!) it.
It's probably more to do with the size of the glow than the width of the line.
If they look ok when you export the map you don't need to worry about them anyway ;)
Sadly haven't had time today, but I'll play with it tomorrow.
