[CC3+] How to stop Campaign Cartographer from changing my active drawing sheet?

I'm working on a decently large map and to stay organized I have sheets for each section of the map. As an example, if I want to add some mountains to area X I have a sheet called "MOUNTAINS - X". But when I set that as my active sheet and then click a mountain object, it automatically switches my sheet to "SYMBOLS". I can manually change back after selecting the mountain asset, but if I want to use a few different ones I need to change the sheet back each time. It gets very tedious to constantly make sure I'm on the correct sheet after changing my active symbol. Is there a setting somewhere to disable this automatic sheet switching?

Thanks!

For symbols, you can click the options button on top of the symbol catalog, and uncheck the option for 'symbols choose their own sheet'.

Generally, I do recommend you keep it enabled though. Most symbols are set to look for sheets starting with the word symbols, which means that if your active sheet is named SYMBOL MOUNTAINS - X, it will stay on that sheet instead of switching, while if you are on a sheet not starting with SYMBOLS, it will switch to the default SYMBOLS sheet. Using this when naming your sheet, you can control the auto-select feature better.
  • Thanks Monsen, I'll keep that in mind. Appreciate the advice!

  • Monsen, I am having a similar problem as ClyonsDM. I have a map that was made from photoshop which I add CC3 symbols and text to, specifically, geometric shapes, text, and occasional other symbols. I understand that CC3 Plus goes to the sheet and layer a symbol or text is associated with. However, the text and symbols do not remain visible after I hit the redraw arrows (upper right corner of the screen) when moving, rotating, saving, closing, and then reopening the map.

To prevent the symbols and text from being hidden I started setting the sheets to "text" sheet and "background" to the layers. However, it always reverts back to Common sheet and if I don't catch it in time, I lose all my work as nothing remains visible. I simply do not understand how to prevent the text and geometric shapes from becoming invisible. I am a complete beginner and do not understand how the sheets and layers systems work to grow competent in the use of CC3 Plus.

I know that I'm probably not suppose to put everything on the Text sheet and Background Layer but leaving it on Common doesn't work because everything is no longer visible once I save, close, and reopen the map or after I hit the zoom buttons or the redraw arrows.

I simply am sick and tired of doing everything multiple times over because of the revert to common sheet and then it not showing my work.

What do I do? Please make the answer as simple as possible, step by step because I just don't get it.

This does not sound like intended behavior, CC3+ should not switch to Common for anything. It would be good if you could just check a few things for me.

First of all, are you sure your entities actually end up on Common? I am asking because there is a visual glitch that sometimes incorrectly show "Common" in the status bar, even if another sheet is selected, but the entities normally end up on the right sheet.

You can easily check this by using the List command from the info menu on the entities. If the output is prefixed by a sheet name like in this screenshot (Showing the BACKGROUND sheet in this case), the entities are on the listed sheet, but if there are no sheet name at the top, they are on Common. (Note that you can still select entities even if you can't see them, or you can do this right after placing an entity before doing the refresh that updates the display and makes it hide. You can also just hide the sheet your image is on.)

Secondly, what sheet is your image on, and where is that sheet in the sheet order (If unsure, you can use the list command from above on the image). Try moving the sheet with the image to the very top of the list of sheets (right below Common) and try doing a bit of mapping now.
