Visual Studio XP Template

While working on the next article in my XP Development series, I got tired of setting up the project all the time, so I created an XP Project template (for Visual Studio 2019) which you can download and install, which have all of the stuff pre-configured

Note that this template assumes that the toolkit is set up in C:\fcwxp and you have a copy of CC3+ for development purposes at c:\cc3plus, both as outlined in my first article in the series.

  • Excuse me, but where exactly do I install it? I think I can guess, but I'd rather not. (See definition of "assume".)

Just run it, and it will install itself into Visual Studio. There shouldn't be any questions about location or such.

Note that I put up an updated version 20 minutes ago, so grab that to make sure you have the most recent one.
  • Sorry, but I originally downloaded it through a right click and "Save Target As..." so it was saved as a .zip file. I did it correctly this time and am about to install it. … It says it installed correctly but how do I test this?

When you start a new project in Visual Studio, you should now have a project type called "CC3+ XP". Use the search box to find it quickly, Visual studio don't allow you to filter for platform/language for custom templates.

hmm, that's weird. None of my browsers do that.

A suggestion: the code image background of the text sections on the XP Development series page makes the text a bit hard to read. Could you either fade the background image a bit or choose a different one? (I missed that you had placed a link to the XP Template there.)

I'll fix it. My fault for not testing it in all browsers. For me, it is already so faint I can hardly see it is there, but I see the fading doesn't work properly in all browsers.
