Super Newb Question: How do I type commands?

I want to use the beta solid commands in PER3, but typing the commands as listed in the help file does not work. No matter what I do, I cannot seem to get a "clean" prompt that will will accept a fresh command. To put it another way, I can only start new commands by hitting a button in the GUI.

And yes, I tried the help files, a forum search, and a bunch of trial + error.

To input a command, just start typing when you are not in the middle of another command. You can see this in the command line when it prompts Command [************]:, which indicates it is ready to accept a command.
The stuff in the square brackets is always the name of the previous command you ran.
To exit out of any command you might be in the middle of, hitting Esc usually does the trick in most cases.

Thanks! Not sure entirely why, but I think I was stuck in the middle of some other command and it kept giving me unexpected results.
