Line to Path function causes crash

When I try to run the Line To Path function on one of my coastlines, CC3 crashes. I just installed patch 7 to see if that would fix it but it did not. Are there any known issues or limitations with this function?

  • I know this was posted several months ago, but I had the same problem. Turns out the line I was trying to convert to a path was already a path. Do you think this might be what's happening in your case as well?

  • I get this sometimes too. I noticed it happened when I was using Fractal Paths with Lines, forgetting the lines existed and crashed it.

What is sort of a problem I see right now is that I can't tell when it's a line or Path, is there a way to check to see what it is? I normally just check to see if it's segmented and that will tell me it's a Line.

Also, having some problems taking said Fractal Path and Straight lines to become a Poly. I "Line to Path" the lines, and then try to "Path to Poly" all of the Paths I have made, and keep getting these annoying lines crossing the whole entity.

Can you please let me know the command name which appears at the prompt and we'll add it to the bug list.

Info => List will tell you whether you're looking at a line or a path. The differences between line and path are somewhat subtle but useful. I have one map in particular I'm stuck laboriously reworking now and I wish I'd planned better and paid more attention to using paths instead of lines. When you draw a line each click creates a line segment which is its own entity. When you draw a path the entire path is a single entity. When my lines and paths were all 0 width it didn't make any difference. When I decided to assign all those lines a width it became immediately clear that I should have been using paths to get proper, continuous corners instead of blocky, missing corners when you use lines.

  • Bit of an old thread, but I found it when I started having this problem,

    "Fixed" it by:

1/ "Exploding" the existing paths (this breaks the fractal lines into numerous short line segments), and then
2/ Using "Line to Path" and selecting all of the lines in the former paths, this combines them into one long path (possibly a shape if the new path forms an enclosed shape),
