[wip] Traveller Patrol Cruiser

At an imagination dead end for osme of my projects, so I'm going to add another one. This is a Patrol Cruiser from a Traveller 4 pdf I bought last year. I like to mix ships, and the occasional metaphor, so here is the ship. First is the scan and second is the deck plan done in CC3/Cosmo. My forst attempt to use the metric templates, this ship is 2m per small square. Png is 50% of original. Nothing posted to my site yet.

Seems kinda narrow and confined to me. The state rooms on 2nd deck are 2m x 2m. But in the drawing, and the scan, they look tiny to me.

Personally, I think that 2 m x 2 m is pretty tiny. I'm just over 1.85 m tall, so I would just barely fit in there lying down. Though, yes, I would fit.

LOL! Good thing you're using a CAD program to do it, then! Ha ha ha.

Honestly, while "tiny," it makes sense for a small craft. Though I'd probably have designated the spaces as "berths" instead of "state rooms," but, hey, maybe the race that designed the ship is small.

The above is out of scale... I misread something. It should be 6 meters wide, but I drew it as 3 meters.

More accurate scale... and part of a laser turret. Not the engineering space I thought it was.

Most of the time when I decrease the color depth, no effect from what I can see. But these Traveller symbols do lose colors and look less 'there' so I'll stop doing it on the ships I draw.

Lets see how it shows up here...

ok, well my eyes sure aren't what they used to be...i cannot make heads or tails out of this on my desktop. Can you post a larger pic Jim? Or...i guess i could check it out on my tablet

The walls and deck are too close in color, so I changed that. I'm also about to post a preliminary look at deck 2.

Darker walls on deck 1, and a preliminary deck plan for deck 2. Details and trimming to go. I'll eventually get these up on my Traveller site and they will be 1200 pixels long instead of the 600 pixels they are here.

Final on Deck 2. Not sure why these are different sizes... I check them in CC3, and they are both 6m wide there.

I increased the scale on this one, so the two decks look the same width. This is still deck 2. Not sure what is causing the disparity in width between deck 1 and deck 2.

Well... I calculated that deck 2 is 0.6574 of the deck 1 width. So the reciprocal of that is 1.5209.

Hide all symbols by hiding and freezing the symbol definition layer. Scalexy. Leave X at 1.0, and Y at 1.52.

This gives a length of approximately the same and a width of 445 pixels. 10 pixels wider than the deck 1 png; however, part of that is the white border.

Anyway, here is the redo.

Needs more work... curved lines and I do not work well together. Cannot use trace because the original bmp is a rectangle. I had to use Irfanview and reverse the colors to get a better outline of the ship. The fuel is one of the high space deck bitmap fills.

This is cool JimP! I'll be watching as you go. Our gaming group will be starting a new SciFi/Space type campaign soon and I'll be doing the official version of our ship. I like how you did the jump engines and fuel. I may steal that idea from you. This will be my first use of Cosmographer, so I appreciate seeing someone else's work first.

That fuel looks great. Way to re-purpose the deck fill. I think it may look even better as your roomful of plasma than as a deck.

For a font I used 'MIddle Ages' on the fuel and jump drive deck. I have a Free Trader deck plan on my Traveller site as well. I had planned on making more ships for my site, but haven't really had the time until recently. Thanks !

This sort of matches the pdf. I guess I'll have to wait until I get an area cleared for a table and start using my 39" television again. This 14.1" laptop screen is not conducive to making good maps.

This is the last deck. The bit at the back looks like a location for a small air raft or boat to carry a boarding crew for ship inspections.

Well, I was checking some posts of mine on the Traveller forums... 1m per square is not the standard size, 1.5m per square is.

So the staterooms are 3m x 3m, not 2m x 2m.

That makes sense. If my math is right, 1.5 m is essentially 5'.
