System resources

(CC3+ and CD3)

So I was working hard on my city, with all the resource stuff turned off. I turned them on and saved. Unfortunately, my city won't load up now ... I think it's too big.

And because it's stuck in the "loading", I can't get in to turn any of the stuff off.

Does anyone know how I can adjust the loading stuff so I can get my city back? I'd love to be able to increase the memory available ... right now it's not using more than 190 MG, but I've got 16GB of physical Ram just sitting there ...

(I'm running this my gaming rig so this shouldn't be a problem ... If I can run Fallout 4 at max settings I should be able to have this render a city ...)

Thanks!

    CC3 doesn't use more than 2 gigs of ram, and not the video card. That was the last I know of. Someone from Profantasy will have to post if something in that has changed.

    You can ensure that effects are off when loading a map by going to tools -> options and change the 'Effects on Load' settings.
  • What's happening is CC is based on a 32 bit program. In Windows OSs, that means that regardless of the hardware, no 32 bit application can use more than about 1.3 - 1.4 GB of memory (exceptions to follow). It has to do with memory block addressing within the running process. You can Google "32 bit process memory limit windows" for more info.

    So, Monsen's solution should get you back up and running. But, if you want to be able to run this map with all the resources turned on (maybe), what you need to do is is research "3gb switch". We used to use that on high-end CAD workstations running Win XP so we could get to about 3 or 3.5 GB processes. But note, expect system instability. And, since I haven't done it since XP, not sure how it would work (or even if it is available) in one of the "modern" Windows OSs.

    Actually, this is only useful on 32-bit OS'es. The OP doesn't mention if he is running a 32 or 64 bit OS though, but with 16GB of RAM in the computer, it is more than likely he is running 64-bit, and thus the OS already allows for 32-bit programs to use up to 4GB of ram IF they are Large Address Aware (CC3 is not LAA, but you can patch it (unsupported), look here)

    Anyway, I believe memory usage is not the problem here, so making more available is not going to solve anything, as the OP said it is not using more than 190MB. Since this is way below the 2GB it can use without doing any changes at all, it is not a memory limitation problem.
  • Just came across Trenloe's post lower in this forum, check it out. It is a more upto date solution for this issue;

    I used to have a problem like this. Have you checked to make sure the effects on your sheets are appropriate to the scale of your map? For example (and this might not be the best example, but I think it should illustrate the point), I think that if I had a bevel set to 900 map units and the map was only 1000 units long I'd run into huge rendering issues.

    This might have been more of a problem with CC3 than CC3+, but your post reminded me of this issue.
