CC3+ -- When I save an FCW and open it later, it's blank. What is happening?

So I just bought CC3+ this weekend with DD3 and CD3.

I love the software and I've got a hang of the basics.

Now, I know that unused sheets don't save. That's cool. But when I open a saved document, The entire thing disappears. I mean like it's back to the basic template of grass and a compass rose.

However, the autosave file works just fine.

What is going on?

Something similar happened to me... At one time, I have opened the autosave file, instead of the real file. From that moment on, everything I saved was saved in the autosave file. And my "normal" file just contained a very early version of the project.
So, my advise would be to open the autosave, use "save as" to switch it back to the normal project location, and continue working (beware not to work on another file before you do this, you might overwrite your autosave...)

By the way, it would be a nice feature if the option to open the autosave could automatically remember where the original file was, and allow working directly on that file...

I save as to a series of filenames, in case I do something terrible.

Save as filename01, work a bit, save as filename02

How often you save is up to you, but if I'm doing something detailed, I save as very often.

When done, I save as filename1, then save as the png file, and then upload to one of my sites.

My hard drive is laid out according to the folder structure on my sites.

Is it possible you draw on the wrong sheet and your items are below the Background? Would be a very very common error.
