Map size smaller than specified with Ancient Realms style

Hi,

I just got the Cartographer's Annual with the Ancient Realms style (October 2015 issue, I think). When I create a new map and "Decide settings myself," I end up with slightly smaller maps than I asked for.

For example, I create a map that's 100 miles by 100 miles. I end up with 95 by 95.999.

They're about 5% smaller than they should be, according to the distance tool. Am I doing something wrong? I'm using the Endpoint tool to get a good distance when measuring height and width. Any chance this can be fixed?

Thanks!

This happens because the actual map border is placed at the edge of the background fill, rather than at the black outline that forms the visible map border. I haven't done any mapping in this style, so I don't know if this is intentional or not (Allowing entities to end just outside the visible. border instead of at it can eliminate certain edge artifacts with effects). To fix it so that new map sizing behaves as expected, open up the template file for editing, delete the lines at the MAP BORDER sheet that borders the background bitmap, and place new ones at the same positions as the visible map border. (You'll want to hide the SCREEN sheet while working on this)
  • I think, for what it's worth, that creating a map should work the same way for all map styles. The user should know what to expect when choosing a map size.

    Thanks for the info.
