Can't erase

Hi

I've returned to mapping for another project but I can't erase things. More accurately I can't select after pressing the erase button on the toolbar. Instead, I am seeing the ?tooltip (highlighted in image below) and I cannot get rid of it. I've tried closing and re-opening again but no luck. What's happening and how can I stop it?

Your selection method is off. Go to Tools -> Options -> Select Method -> Choose 'Dialog or popup'. That should fix it.

I cant select ANYTHING though, would the above fix that too?

I just learned that you can change your selection method, but are you saying you can turn it off completely?

No, but it can be set to options that ends up having the same effect. For example, if it is set to select by prior, and there is no prior stored selection, then it would be disabled for all practical purposes. Do also note that no selection method other than the default offer a pick cursor or selection rectangle, so if you don't understand what happens, it is also disabled for all practical purposes.
