No effects in CC3+

I'm having an issue with CC3+ and I'm hoping there is something easy I am just missing. I created a map with the effects off (old habit from CC3) and once it was mostly finished I turned on the effects to check out a couple spots to see if I needed to clean them up. However the effects didn't show up. I tried the DD3 default settings for effects, then I tried a custom set-up I had used in CC3, all to no avail. The map is pretty, but without effects it lacks, well, effectiveness. Am I missing something obvious or am I doing something dumb that should be obvious but I am just missing.

Make sure you're MERGE layer is not hidden, that the first thing that comes to my mind. Also, that the sizes of the effects match your map size (if effects are too small, they might simply not be visible). Apart from that, post your FCW file here and we can take a look what's going wrong.

Spot on as always. I had clicked the "hide all" button somewhere along the way and hadn't unhidden the merge sheet. Thanks for the help.
