Downloading Symbol Libraries

Hey folks, first time user, first post. I've been diligently reading the "how to" pdfs and they are very detailed. I have some photoshop skills and I think they will help with the transition. Not a concern.

However, I have downloaded a few files from the user library. I would like to add them to my existing libraries, but (1) they are not all the same file extension, and (2) they all showed up zipped, and I have NO idea where to put them so that CC3+ can find them when I go looking for them. Some of them have read me documentation that does not answer the question, either. I've been looking here, ran a search, and went back to the website for the answer, and I've found nothing so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am about to drop some cash on a couple of annuals, and I'd like to know how THEY are installed, as well. Thanks in advance for the help. I'm champing at the bit to get drawing.

To begin with the annuals, they have an installer, so you don't need to worry about them.

As for symbol catalogs, they can really be placed anywhere. Additional symbol catalogs needs to be opened using the 'open symbol catalog' button and browse to them anyway. You would usually store these somewhere inside the Symbols directory though.
However, if the symbols are raster symbols, there will also be some image files accompanying them. If this is the case, look for a readme, because the files must be placed in whatever location the symbol catalog refers to, there is no standard location (That is, they'll probably need to be placed somewhere inside the Symbols directory, but you still need to know the correct subdirectory)

Note that symbol catalogs are .fsc files. If you download any .ccx files however, this means that they are encrypted symbol catalogs. For these, you need to decrypt them with SymEncrypt first, available as a download from your registered user's page.
  • Excellent. I put all of my .fcs files into the symbols folder. I'll look at them in program. Thanks for the info!
