Changing House layers in CC3+

I am having a problem with changing house layers in CC3. I am in CD3+. I go to City - Change House layer. I select the object, right click, then click on 'Do it', then Right click again, and choose the layer (eg BLDNGS (GOVERNMENT)). I then go to Color Buildings, click on Change now, and yet nothing happens, not even when i click on the layer I want changed.
Is there a problem in CC3+ here? What am I doing wrong. I seem to be following the instructions in the Tome of Ultimate Mapping, pp 309-310. HELP

This does indeed seem to be a current bug in CD3 under CC3+. It's now on our list to fix.

In the meatime, here is a Workaround:
    - Unlock Groups
    - Change Layer > Select the House(s) > Combine AND > Layer (whatever layer you drew the house on) > Right-click > Do It
    - Right-click > Select new layer, eg BLDNGS (Government).
    - Re-lock Groups
  • Ralf, I tried your method, and it did not work. Next step?
Also, I find that with some symbols, in CC3, the house layer change layer does not appear as a colour, even when other symbols and houses do.
eg file for Arundel village as attached

Did you run Color Buildings afterwards? If yes, can you post the map that is going wrong?

I am sorry I don't understand the second question, what command are you trying to use?
  • Yes, I did run Color Buildings after. The map is attached. It should be in CC3+ format, using CD3+

For the CC3 program map (Arundel Village), see attachment above; I cannot get certain symbols to change colour with the 'change house layer' command- they just remain in the 'shaded' colour, eg the Inn and the towers. This is despite using the usual method which worked on everything else. Is it possible that these do not have a STRUCTURES layer?
  • Also I find that when I save my CC3+ files, they then reopen as CC3 files unless I run them through CC3+ directly. Is there a way for CC3+ files to save as CC3+ spcifically, so as not to have to do this all the time?

Ah, I forgot a step. You need to re-LOCK groups first before you do the Color Buildings command. I tried it on two houses in the attached version of the map and it worked.

The problem with the temple in the Arundel map is that the bitmap is not on the correct layer. It should be on STRUCTURES (SHADING), but since it isn't, it doesn't get hidden when you show building with colors. I've fixed hat. The towers are a little more complicated, as they are actually roof additions and not tower symbols. These are not setup to work with chanding house colors.

You can't differentiate between CC3 and CC3+ files in Windows, because they are both FastCAD files, sorry. If you want files to open by default in one of them, simply run CC3 or CC3+ it first by right-clicking and choosing "Run as Admin". FCW files will open with the last one run in this way.
  • I can get the Inn to work if I redo it as House command, not as a symbol. I still cannot get SOME symbols to work, eg the tents in the public square in Arundel - this is all CC3 stuff.
As for CC3+, even in the edited version of Karpanov, I cannot get the buildings to change color, even when I Lock groups before Color Buildings. Can you outline exactly the steps you did - I am sure I am missing something.
And thanks for the pointer about CC3 and CC3+

Ralf is correct. I have CC3 and CC3+ on my computer. I run the program I want to use, and then load the map by browsing to the folder containing it.
