Windows 8 install problems

I've got CC3, CD3, DD3 as well as the symbol set 2, annual 07-08. When installing I keep having issues with the initial install of each of the core 3. They will through an error saying " is not an integer value. After a repair instal everything will work but the menu buttons won't show up. I can use the CD3 menu fix to make some show up, but ironically nothing I have installed will pop up. Also the CD3 has to have its registry serial code manually entered. If I load a CD3 or DD3 map the buttons will appear, but once I click the CC3 button they disappear again...

I've tried to uninstall then reinstall, but all the old registry stuff and test maps remain. Any thoughts on this would really help. Even if it's just how to do a complete clean install.

Are you using up to date installers, or are you using the old original ones from when the programs were originally released? I don't know for sure, but I am thinking that the .net dependency of the old installers may cause some issues. Plenty of people run it on Windows 8, including me, so it should not be a general incompatibility problem.
  • I'm thinking mine are the most current because I just downloaded them today, although I originally bought them 2-3 years ago. CC3 downloaded 3.43 though and the updated said it was up to date. I've used them on my older windows 7 laptop without issue but when it died last week I bought the newer HP Pavilion 360.
  • Are you running the installers as an administrator?
  • Yeah, I'm wondering if it's because I might not have the first time but it doesn't seem to completely uninstall either, since the old maps and registry info remains. Is there a way to clear everything and insure a fresh install?

We've been seeing this bug (" is not an integer value) crop up occasionally lately and are still investigating what exactly the cause is. There is a workaround to complete the installation if it crops up:

Go to your CC3 program folder and run "CC3MenuConfig.exe" manually, by right-clicking and choosing "Run as Administrator". This should fix the menus, the only thing the install fails to complete correctly.
  • Everything seems to be working correct now! Thanks!

This sounds like a corrupted registry entry for the CC3 serial number which sometimes happens on an interrupted setup or de-installation.

Try opening the Windows registry and delete the following entry:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\EvolutionComputing\CampaignCartographer3\SerialNum
That should allow the CC3 setup to continue past the EULA.

Let me know if you need instruction on how to edit the Windows registry.
